Attacks of Listicle

I used to hate listicle so much because they are erm so fake in terms of "Top 10" and "Best" etc etc in Singapore. How would we know what is the best or top? Have you seriously tried it all?

Unknowingly I've been writing quite a bit of them these days because of how "easy" it was. It is just so easy to arrange thoughts just that way isn't it.

OMG. What have I become?

Anyway I've been watching a lot of shows no thanks to the haze and not going out. I think I will skip the "Top 10 Romance Comedy I have watched over the weekend" article for now.

I was a band member

But not so as cool as them

Not as well memorable as them either

Definitely didn't have a career as long as theirs

And luckily, not as gay as them

So what was I? What did I play or what did I do?

Can you spot me? That was a picture taken when I was 15. That makes it 16 years ago. I was in a Military Band/Concert Band. I suck. I wasn't at all talented. Something that others need 10mins to learn would take me 20mins. To make things worst, I've never invested that 20mins.

I was lazy. I was a fat boy and my defence mechanism was my sense of humour. Still is until today but the main difference was I was the invisible guy in the band. I can bet my money that half the band doesn't even knew I was in the band. I had fun with the boys from the percussion section but that's about it. I was a awkward fat little boy who can't play music to save his life and at the same time refuse to practice.

I can't blame anyone for that besides myself. So why was I at the band? I mean I like music, just that I'm not a natural musical. I like to perform, I like to be on the stage, I enjoy the company of the guys. I mean I did toy with the idea of leaving the CCA but they kept me there. I had fun, I got my CCA point. I wasn't driven to become any leader nor anything. Although I did went back to the band very often to help out with planning partly and what not during my alumni years which didn't end up well at all, I had my run. #BadTeenageMemories

I still like the stage, I like the attention but what sucks is that I'm not good with any performing act besides talking. I did a bit of show hosting here and there growing up but I didn't put in the hours to become show host full time either.

I digress. I just want to show off my new toys from Yongwei. Cajon Drum pronounce as ca-hon because it is mexican. So in Mexico you are Jorny and not Horny. I am not sure if I will eventually be able to play something because my sister bought me a ukelele some years back and all I did was take photo with it to look talented.

I guess talent is important but commitment is even more important. Like someone I used to know once mentioned to someone else "I have commitment issues". I guess that is true to certain extend. Irony is that I've been dating my wife for 13 years. #IWonderHowIWonderWhy

As much as I enjoy listening to music, sound quality was never something I paid attention to but that was before I tried Sudio Klang.

I always felt that it was my ears which is not that sensitive thus I have never invested in a proper ear piece thinking that it is "all the same".

#MusicMonday - 新谣 秋心賦 + 代替

So I went to Xin Yao 32 the other day and I must say a few things

1. I was very impressed by the local Xin Yao Community.

2. Star Theater might be able to fit in 5,000 pax but the structure sure wasn't ready for it. The carpark was over flowing, lift was jammed up, escalator was over flowing as well. If there were to be a terrorist attack to happen there or maybe even a fire, everyone will die. DIE!

Enough of Digress.

I can't say I am a very big fan of Xin Yao because there were a lot of songs that threw me off the stage as well and I had no idea what song they were but they were all very good songs. So today I would like to share this song or rather songs that was performed by Jim Lim the other night. Yes, Jim Lim, I am sure a lot of you have no idea who he is right?

Considering how everyone should know the guy who looks like me, better known as Calvin Soh because of his acting career I can safely call Jim Lim "one of the other guy from dreamz fm".

I always felt very wasted for the 3 of them. I always call them the local Beegees, good voice and very talented but I guess too bad for them that they are not exactly marketable. They are neither the most handsome nor the guys with some X factor. They were born in the era fighting against people like 5566 , energy and F4. How to fight? To be fair I did buy 2 of their 3 CDs!

Of course everyone remember their 不值得 and maybe also 天天好心情 and 守护星 but the truth is they made very nice music.

Jim was very humble that night, before he performed his song he actually mention that maybe most people would not know this song which is 代替 but that was actually my favorite song in the 881 album. Yes, we bought that album as well. We always believe in supporting local artist! I guess local artists are really not getting enough attention for their talent.

He did not just perform that song but he also made a mashup between this song and one of Liang Wen Fu Laoshi's song which is 秋心賦. I've never heard of this song but I was totally WOW by this song. If we think that 方文山 and his 中国风 is really solid, all i can say is that this song is nothing too far away from that standard. 

Check out these two songs and try to imagine a mashup if you could. This is one thing I love about live concerts, special songs and the voices!

If you are unaware, Sun Yanzi is "back", doing her tour and also had a new album - Kepler.

Kepler is actually the last name of a German mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer. Not too sure if it's the real story behind it but this album's of her has some link with stars and what not too. I guess that's the theme? Not one of those guys who follows all the back stories.

I guess I really love this song because of the lyrics. Typical emo Chinese love song. How much one is willing to sacrifice to love and wait for someone even if there is no return, even if the other party is unaware. And my favourite line has to be,

Timing can be a bitch. Meeting the wrong version of you at the wrong timing can mean a whole new different story for anyone.

RE: Thai Club Culture in Singapore

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for sharing and reading my article. To be honest I never thought the article would went THAT far. The article itself has gotten over 30,000 clicks and 176 shares from what I can see. That's some numbers I've never gotten before. Oh, which one?

THIS: Thai Club Culture in Singapore 

I can't say for sure I know what happened there but I guess many find it something easy to relate or something that has been happening around for too long but no one stood up and said something. 

Generally from what I could see was most of the guys were sharing this post and tagging their friend to stop going or saying that this post is very true and in one way or the other was a victim. Boyfriend run away, guy friends complaining about ladies and what not. 

On the other hand, some readers has also posted it on a forum and putting it in the light that I'm referring to guys who goes to Thai Club as losers. 

I bet that's what the Thai Clubbers were saying about me after reading my post and calling me keyboard warrior.

I just wish to clarify that I'm not putting anyone down or saying that these places are for losers. I am no God or saint and I'm in no position to judge what's right or wrong. The bottom-line of the post was very clear cut. IF you are one of those who are ranting about Singaporean girls and at the same time suffering financially due to Credit Card Bills from Thai Club, that article was for you to shape up and wake up but if you know what you are doing and you are simply paying money for the fun of it and you really enjoying your lifestyle and burning thousands of dollars night in and night out, that article ain't targeted at you. 

And finally the champion comment: 

I mean kudos to him to be able to live off Thai girls' money but that is the KC Trap isn't it? Play with fire thinking you can make the girl fall in love with you but nobody knows who will get the final laugh. In his case it was him.
