Just Another Singapore Blog Awards Post - 9gag Style

Smithankyou     4/18/2012 02:56:00 PM     9gag, lol, omy, singapore blog awards     2 comments
9gag has slowly and unknowingly integrated into our lives and especially lives of people like us, people who spent too much time on social media.

Talking about Social Media, I suppose the up and coming event for local would be the OMY Blog Awards which I already blogged about recently.

And I know how we prefer pictures > wordy posts and I've decided to blend into the culture. FYI, just for laugh. In fact you will only find it funny if you know these memes.

[POV] A Japanese....

Smithankyou     4/18/2012 02:36:00 PM     movie review, omy, POV, sponsored post     2 comments
POV - Point Of View.. a term commonly used in video making.

It has been awhile since I caught a horror movie on the big screen as the GF ain't exactly a fan of such movies but thanks to OMY I get to watch a horror show ALONE with many other ghostbloggers from OMY.

So as the title suggest it's about video making and them recording things that shouldn't be there. No surprises in this movie where you are expected to see some shaking POV videos like of those on Blair Witch Project and no surprise as well that you get to see some random ghost from those videos.

For me what makes a good horror firm is not about just surprises and popping out of no where to scare you at that moment but it's about the idea that they plant into your mind after the show. Sad to say so far the ones that can really give me the creep only goes to those Thai Horror show.

Not only did this show not give me that feeling, it also drags on a little too long for their own good. The idea is direct and they tried to drag and create the creepy feeling too many times and i wouldn't say it's really successful.

All in all if you really need a good movie, this will not your go-to movie this season with all the blockbuster and if you need a show to bring your date to so she can get a shock and hug you while you stroke her on the head, not a good bet either.

Overall, this show did not fulfill it's objective of scaring me, neither did it have a very original idea, no good music or scene and even the Japanese actress weren't cute enough to save the show.  I don't think I need to give a scale rating for a show like this.

Signing off with it's trailer.

Mr.Smith, Thai horror firms are still the best i guess.

WHAT-THE-HELL ? A #SBA2012 Post

 Smithankyou     4/17/2012 09:04:00 AM     Blogging, omy, SBA2012     1 comment
It's the time of the year where people on the blogosphere starts showing their appreciation. It's a little bit like Singapore Blogosphere Thanks-giving but we actually call it Singapore Blog Awards. Although I have been blogging for a few years but I've never been really doing it well or consistently. I have always been a hard nut to crack and doing sub-culture and non-mainstream posts.

Although I was part of #SBA2011 I was there with a different motives and winning the awards is not one of them.(I wasn't even nominated.)

Then popular Planking.
And nope, planking wasn't the main objective for me too. My main objective was to Pick up girls make sure the event happens and happens smoothly.

Well, work aside for 2012 and although being a sub-culture blogger like I mention earlier, I actually got a few nominations this year although it all falls into the same category - WTH.

What makes a blogger WTH? My idol/Ang Mo blogger friend/Winner of WTH blogger for '10 and '11 gives us his piece of mind advice.

So I ask myself, "Why did my readers nominate me for WTH and not Beauty blogger leh? I also quite beautiful right?"

So I thought I should know myself better and give myself 3 good reasons why I should even answer to their "calling". (FYI, you still have to register to the website upon nomination, meaning to say you can actually ignore it.)

Reason 1.

- I am shameless and I actually have this fake blog awards stickers I made a few years ago to mock the blogawards.

Looks Familiar not the design?
It just means you haven't been blogging long enough if you don't recognize this design and has no idea who I am mocking.

Reason 2.

- I am crazy.  Why?

I did a video to scold my client. In fact my client from OMY and it actually gotten more than 1,000 views within 2-3 days. Please ignore the fact that I look like yongwei92 in the video. I think he look better, so please don't insult him.

Reason 3.

- I have a SEX blog.

Nuff nang Said.

No. I am not kidding. Here . And I actually did a sex toy giveaway earlier this year during Valentines' Day.

Okay. I suppose I am really pretty crazy but I hope I am "What The Hell" and not like what AussiePete says "What An Idiot".

"In fact, instead of people saying ‘What the Hell!!’ they may choose to say ‘What an Idiot!!’" (Quote My Ang Mo Blogger Friend.)

Regardless if I'm a WTH or WAI, it's doesn't really matter to me actually. Nothing changes for me if I got nominated or not as I will still blog as who I am and how I like to. But of course, the feeling of knowing that people are reading and actually make an effort to go through the long process of filling in the form just to nominate me makes me feel motivated about writing and blogging.

Counting down to blogawards and hope to see you guys there!

Mr.Smith, eh eh.. I wanna win What The F*** award leh! Suits me better actually.

Adventure of John Carter!

Smithankyou     3/16/2012 09:29:00 AM     advertorial, event, giveaway, johncarter, movie review     No comments
For those of you guys who are following me on instagram, twitter or even my facebook should already see some of the pictures and tweet about me bringing my friend John Carter around a few of Singapore hottest happenings last week. Yup, that's the IT Show as well as Transformers Cybertron Con 2012.

Wait a minute, you have no idea who John Carter is?

From Wikipedia -

John Carter is a 2012 American epic science fiction action film that tells the first interplanetary adventure of John Carter, the heroic protagonist of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 11-volume Barsoom series of novels (1912-43).[6] The film marks the centennial of the character's first appearance. (Full Article including spoiler)

So basically John Carter is a character that travelled thru space and the show is actually pretty awesome. It's a little like avatar meets LOTR. And last weekend he just travelled back from Mars to Singapore and I was the chosen one to bring him around town! He kinda contacted me thru one of those amazing device I have with me known as the iPhone(no seriously, iPhone can now dial to Mars.) and we had quite some amazing time running around town. Here are some of my favorite Pictures!

He was invited to the dark side.
We bump into some friends. Kinda friends I guess.. like Vader and a Trooper.

And that's the popular Jocelyn Kau. Have been talking to her on twitter for awhile and that's the first time meeting her IRL! Cute babe!

How do I use this?
He didn't get use to the gravity on earth at all and was taking a break off all the walking and Andy was laughing at him for being such a weakling.

RED BULL GIVES YOU WINGS!!!
And I decided to give him some red bull since he was tired but I guess it wasn't really a good idea.

Tekken Vs Street Fighter!

He really wanted to play a game or two but the kids didn't wanna play with him. Should have gotten him a change of clothes.

Dj JC in da HOUSE YO!!
But well he did have some fun spinning the disc!

He was still complaining about the heat in Singapore even when he is dressed like a whore warrior!!

Mr.Popular
And why am I not even surprise he is a ladies man. I was very jealous.

LEAVE THE GIRLS ALONE!

I was so jealous I wanted to (try to) kill him! Fats vs 6 pacs, I decided not to. And instead I got him away to the Cybertron Con...

And I got an assassin to finish him on my behalf...

No, I'm just kidding. This dude is just a tourist at the con as well. He was really cool and we wanted to take a picture with him. His arms was like twice - thrice the size of John Carter's.

And since it has been awhile since he last visited Earth, I decided that he should try some local fun! erm, no, not what you guys are thinking. it's PLANKING!

And the girls like what they see!

Anyway I really had so much fun bringing JC around and we took so many pictures? Check out the full album!

And that's not all! Before he left, he actually pass me some gifts and ask me to give it to my friends and I thought since we took so many pictures, why not have some fun and have a CAPTION CONTEST!

The winner will walk away with John Carter's Goodies:

Notebook
Bouncing Glitter ball
Leather keychain
Watch
Colour changing thermo mug
Adult T-Shirt
Solar night light

How To Join?

Simply like any of the pictures in the caption contest folder and leave a caption! John Carter will pick his favorite caption and the winner will be contacted via facebook! You can enter more than one entry and like more than one picture! So get you creative juice going!

Terms and Conditions

1) This contest is for readers based on Earth and in Singapore only.
2) You have to be awesome. (If you are reading my blog, congrats, you are!)
3) Contest ends 23rd March 2012

Mr.Smith, John Carter is awesome but I am awesomer

Hotel, Motel, Oasia Hotel!

Smithankyou     3/09/2012 09:48:00 AM     event, GPGT, hotel, Oasia     1 comment
I actually always wanted to get a room (like literally) for a simple staycation with the lo por just to chill and relax over a simple weekend when we can just *cough* sleep overnight as well as be closer to town and do early shopping the next day and even club late the night before without worrying that we will reach home too late and wake everyone at home up, but I've never put it into plan because we always thought it's not "worth" it to spend that few hundred dollars for a staycation where we would do better with that money.

That being said, the urge of doing it is getting strong after visiting Oasia Hotel last weekend with the lo por for a blogger party!

I must say the party was quite a blast, it has been awhile since I met so many of those familiar faces at one event. Oasia was really generous with the invite!

My Female "Ahmad"

It's over there!
Some tai-tai times for her after the long drive.

All done!
If you guys have been reading my blog you guy will realize that I am not that kinda guy who go every event and ask people to take pictures with me and than I will post it on my blog. So it ain't all bad bringing my own Ahmad/Model to an event right? Presenting my beautiful lopor!

pee-ka-boo!

The view from the club pool was super awesome! They actually have two pools in the hotel, one for the normal guest and the other for the club guest!

Cool view no?

The infinity pool!

More views of the pool!
What a view!
I must give it to Oasia hotel for the amount of effort they put into the small little details to make every room special for the guest? I initially thought that Oasia hotel is like one of those boutique hotel due to the quirky designs but it turned out to be a really cool 4 star hotel! Great design and great service! Best of both world no?

The twin bed room w a nice bedtop artwork instead of typical painting.
Another artwork at the queen bed room.

Nemo Emo
My favorite picture taken in the suite.

Why must I watch the TV if I could watch her shower? HAHA!
I say this picture is the best cause no face! :x mean!

Let's take a picture together!
Fine fine, a proper picture together.
So on top of having a party and some nice food, Oasia Hotel actually organize a phototaking competition for the bloggers and we were suppose to take snap along the way in the hotel but the hotel made it so simple as there were so many nice sculptures and nice views around the place.

Look at this view! Shower and looking into your office! And erm.. the office guys looking at your too.:x

Reading between the lines.

Boxes.

The Sky and Me!
The centre piece at the hall.
Now that I've enjoyed my preview of Oasia I am so itching for the full staycation! If you guys too wanna give it ago I've a good news to share for my readers and friends!

Enjoy 10% off Oasia Hotel's Special Weekend Staycation Package if they book the Deluxe Room (S$240++) or Club Room (S$300++) through the form below! Or the link here!

Dear SAF, My IPPT Manifesto.

Smithankyou     3/08/2012 09:30:00 AM     army, ippt, saf, Thoughts     No comments
Dear SAF,

It is every guy's duty in Singapore to serve the nation and be part of our defense force.(*well, do not correct me just yet, yes we do know there are some do kind of "escape" it in one way or the other but this is not the whole idea about this article. cough*) While many pre-army boys will tell you how much they hate the idea about going into army and waste the 2yrs, we the re-service guys will tell you that the 2 years of army is nothing as compared to the agony you will be going through later part of your life. Some until late 30s and some until 40s. The four scary letters - IPPT.

In fact many agree when it comes to comparing IPPT and ICT(In camp training/Re-service), ICT are awesome as you go back to catch up with our friends as well as update ourselves on our defense system and it somehow gives us some time away from our work and wives and just back in camp to gather with some "brothers" but IPPT on the other hand can be really painful. When you spent 10hours a day in front of the desk working and many other commitment at home, it's really difficult to get time to train yourself to be SAF certified physically fit.

IS THAT SO? Or is that not so? Frankly speaking, not training is an excuse, being busy is an excuse too so what is the problem? IPPT has never been my best friend and in fact it has always been a pain in my ass but I manage to clear both my window while I was an active soldier, in fact I was so close to getting an IPPT silver for the 1st time in my life. Than what went wrong? Or rather what went right during those days? I ran 5 days a week(at least 5km and average above 10km), I do PT trainings at least 3 days a week, I was 10 yrs younger, I do other physical training and i ate a very healthy meals which was provided by SFI. On top of that, I sleep more than 10hours a day. Seriously, what is the chance of me having such life after that? Will I be anywhere close if I put in half the effort? I guess we pretty much know the answer.

To me, the goal set by SAF to pass my IPPT is, well I wouldn't say impossible but I would say it is not SMART. As many motivation speakers would have taught you by now, by setting a SMART goal it simply means setting a goal which is

Of course, the goal set by SAF to me is considered as not attainable nor is it realistic to me at this point of my life. Did I try? Hell yeah I did. During my first year of ORD I tried my best to maintain my shape but to no avail I did not manage to pass 1 of the station which was my weakest through out my army life - chin up and Standing Board Jump.In fact I tried so hard I have slight injuries over my shoulder and knees over the years.

The whole idea about IPPT is in such a format that once we fail 1 subject, we fail the whole test. If given anyone who fail a single station, what are the chances of that person doing their best for all the rest of the stations? The game is simple, putting it in a very singlish way" fail 1 also fail, fail 5 also fail, what is the difference? f*ck it lah."

Probably they might be saying,"comon Smith, you are not a quitter, you should fight on and be stronger! Be better and improve!"

I am saying"Bitch please, I tried, i fought, i lost and there are some battles we just have to give cause we know we can't win."

From the point of view of an obese soldier who had never complete a single 2.4km run before army till completing a half marathon of 21km,I dare to say I pretty much know how it feels to be both fit and unfit as well as unmotivated and motivated at the same time. I am saying that it is not impossible to motivate(us) people to get fit again but it is about setting Attainable and Realistic goals. That is the key to sports motivation. It is not always about the incentive about $100 or $200, in fact emotional incentive is way more awesome than monetary incentive. When people feel good about themselves and they feel like they are top of the world and nothing, I say NOTHING beats that feeling.

No, do not get me wrong. I am not saying that we should lower any standard of IPPT. I am talking about something which I have talked about before on my blog previously. I did some paraphrasing while talking to a friend.

"every soldier has got their different capability and so does our vocation need us in different ways. Not all soldiers are suppose to be the same, not mentaliy, not physically.. why not we implement an ippt system that give u 6 station choose 4. And on top of that make 2.4km as compulsory since all soldiers need to run."

In fact, I did write in this suggestion to the PTI at my camp during my previous session of IPT lessons 2 windows ago but apparently there wasn't any followup on this suggestions. I have talked to many and shared this idea with many and we see more pros than cons in this situation. Solder can choose the station they are better at, they will be more motivated to try and pass the stations they are better at and even for the scholars up there, they can show a better KPI of a higher % of passes in IPPT.

I am not writing this article because I am stuck down in the rabbit hole with eternal years of RT or IPT that I wish to escape. I am writing this article because I hope someone will actually read and look into our system again. Let's not fall into a typical scene of "The Broken Window Theory" and succumb to conformity. I believe that everyone has a part to play in improving a system considering the fact that we ARE all part of the system.

I sincerely hope someone will pick this up. Maybe not this year, maybe not next but at least sometime down the road.

Yours Sincerely,
IPPT Woes.
