100 years of Awesomeness

Smithankyou     3/01/2012 03:34:00 PM     event, milo, nestle, sponsored post, toys     No comments
Remember my favorite NBA player - Penny Hardaway? He was awesome. He was the biggest thing on the court during his era but his days didn't last due to injuries. Jeremy Lin is awesome now but how long can be stay awesome?

My point? Being awesome ain't all that hard but it is about staying awesome and leaving a mark and touching people's life. How many of us has done that or how many can do this in the future?

It might sound like a tall order if we are talking about someone but what about a brand?

What about Nestle?

You might not know but Nestle has been with us for already 100 years! I grew up as a Nespray kid, I drink MILO all the time, I drink nescafe to stay awake and I even eat Maggie Mee in my outfield during army daze! You gotta be kidding me if you are telling me that Nestle hasn't been a part of your life!

So we gathered at the toy museum 2 weeks ago to "celebrate" this event! It's not just another typical media event where we have performance or cake cutting. We had a very interactive session talking about the good-o-days and what is a toy museum trip without some toys?

FYI, this is totally not my ERA. Not so old yet!

Things were cheap back then. So we do not need too many digits as well.
Old Skool product FALL IN!
LOOK! My Fav Tak Giu! It's Tonic Food Drink!
More awesome than a kick scooter!
"SILENCE!! I'LL KEEL YOU"
SISTER?
This is Haikal! He is teaching us to make toys. WAIT! HE WAS MY PRIMARY SCHOOL CLASSMATE! #TrueStory
Can you guess what toy we are going to make?
1st, tie the chopsticks together.
Pull the 1st one to the left and 3rd one to the right and tie another stick across like this!
Closer look on the rubber band knots.
Put a marble into a plastic bag. No, this is not the ball from your mouse in the 90s.
I have no caption for this. If you get what I mean.
"EH! Mine cannot stand well leh!"
"See, I got mine up"
"Mine can stand on my head"
"I can balance 5 at 1 time!! MUAHAHA"
Okay, so that is the balancing pyramid. It kept us entertained for awhile actually. The idea of this toy is actually not new to me, I remember I have one of this at home too. Just that I never expect that I actually can make one myself!

The one I have at home looks like this! A balancing bird!!

I wonder how will the "new age" iPhone, PS3 kids will enjoy playing this toy. Although I am a gadget man myself, it's still pretty amazing making your own toy!

And that wasn't the only toy we made during the event. Can you guess what else did we make from the pictures below?

We used tracing paper.
And a piece of stick!
Yes! It's a kite! And we were told to design it anyway we want and the theme was "100 years of Nestle". And my "team"(no, it's totally an individual thing but apparent Ms DumDum wanted it as a team effort) went with the idea of Milo! The reason why i prefer MILO > other products was simple, although Nestle ain't a local brand but it sure has integrated itself into our lives in too many ways and the most interesting one has to be MILO.

It even has got it's own local name - Tak Giu! And this name is actually widely recognize by everyone locally. They story behind this is cause people back then ain't English educated and pronouncing the word "MILO" ain't the easiest thing to do and their tin has this little boy who plays soccer and thus it's name "TAK GIU" which means "Kick Ball".

This is truly Nestle if you ask me! And that's how my MILO KITE gets it's design!

"100 Years of Tak Giu!" Actually I've no idea how old MILO was off hand but now I know MILO has been around since the 1930s thanks to Wikipedia! And ya, so I'm actually wrong cause it's not 100 yrs for MILO (yet).

And then we were introduced to this Nescafe dolce gusto machine!

I am actually very impress by this machine. The coffee quality is comparable to those they sell at cafes and each capsule is only at a dollar odd in major super markets. And the machine comes in two sizes, the piccolo (shown above) and the circolo! It's only $189 and $269 respectively! I wanna get one for my office!! ME GUSTA!!
Circolo!
A coffee made by the circolo.

We had a nice weekend all thanks to nestle for the invite! And now I need to get that coffee maker!!

The coffee powder smells so good and it made me look so pretty. No seriously, I look hotter as a blonde. HAHA

Mr.Smith, TAK GIU JI PUAY~~

Sheldon Moment.

Smithankyou     2/28/2012 01:13:00 PM     TBBT, Thoughts     1 comment
For those who has no idea who Sheldon is, you have to check out the Big Bang Theory.

As for now, THIS IS SHELDON!

Have you experience one of those moments?

Recently I have been feeling a little like this but yet not exactly. It's not just about being stupid. It's about how people treat themselves and make decisions in their life.

So I tweeted this the other night. I am not saying that I've never made any mistake or any bad decision in my life but I just feel sad for people who are choosing the "wrong" path in life. Getting happiness/love the "wrong" way. of course, who am I to judge what is right and wrong, it's pretty much works as long as the person meet his/her objective no?

I don't know how it works for your guys but I spend too much timing fighting for my believes and my principles in many things. If you put it nicely is that I am a man who knows what I want and am decisive about things but if you put it in another words I am that anal asshole who stirs shit as long as things does not goes my way!

Things that really pisses me off these days, (P.S: I am NOT sorry if you are any of the below.)

1. People who doesn't really watch NBA but sound like an expert after watching J Lin's 8 games.
2. People who join churp churp and flood my timeline with "Be Original, blah blah blah"
3. Wannabes who goes to all the bloggers events and act like some famous fuck and after that go paste their blog link on every possible facebook group they are in trying to promote their site.
4. People who follows and unfollow you on twitter once you follow them.
5. People who act like one rich and talks about cars, property or what not fucking shit to make them sounds like a big fuck.
6. People who tags you on their facebook product like bra, dress sunglasses or whatever not.

Off my head, it's about this 6 but look at these 6 points again. They ain't exactly wrong. It's not against the law, it's not something that their parents say it's bad to do and in fact it's kinda socially acceptable in some way but it's just me who can't stand some of these bullshit practices. In fact, it's some of these so call bad practices that got them far. I have friends who had more clicks on their blogs cause they are thick skin enough to paste all over, I've friends who has more likes on their facebook page cause he tags his friends on his pictures and I even have friends who make it big cause he made himself sounded really big to begin with!

See! It makes me sad that people make such moves in life and it makes me feels even worst when other people accept such gestures!

Which exactly why I asked myself this question over and over again; what if what I am fighting for is not worth fighting for? What is the point I ask myself. Does being social/justice fighter pays off? That is the problem with me, IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTERS TO ME IF IT PAYS OFF! I JUST WANT TO FIGHT FOR WHAT I THINK IS RIGHT!

I suppose I'm just a nutcase. As for now, i'm going to cry for you are stupid.

Mr.Smith, if I have to cry for every single stupid person around me, I would be blind by now!

Scolding People Online! Chinese Style!

Smithankyou     2/27/2012 02:59:00 PM     chinese, omy, Video     No comments
Remember I had an online "fight" with another blogger recently? The one that I made a silly video?

And apparently it's kinda fun doing such videos and I actually did another one!

No, not because I am bored or I really hate Alvin but it's for the "Speak mandarin campaign" contest.

Contest Video

Jokes aside, I think the importance in speaking proper mandarin has becoming more and more important in our daily lives. Our clients are coming in from China, we have more and more foreign workers coming into Singapore from China. Besides the importance of using it in our daily lives, I also think that it's important cause it's our culture and it's our root.

Although people these days felt that it's not so awesome being the "cheena pok" people but I am one who enjoys Chinese literature, Chinese histories, Chinese music and what not. Although my written Chinese has been on a down slope ever since Secondary school days but I must say i really still enjoy some interested Chinese literature stuff like deng mi or what not.

Mr.Smith, I am a cheena pok. so? big deal?

Candy Shop at Avatar.

Smithankyou     2/23/2012 01:12:00 PM     avatar, clubbing, GPGT, Party     No comments
I'll take you to the candy shop~ I'll let you lick my lollipop~
Go ahead girl and don't you stop~ Keep going till you hit the spot~!

And so you thought you only go the candy shop with 50cent in the MTV? You are wrong! Now you can go to the Candy shop at Avatar!

Oops, wrong picture!

So Club Avatar has this new concept where they give away candies to clubbers who are having fun there. And who do we have there to do the giveaway? Some cute guys of course! That's Leo!
The one licking the candy is Leo.
Leo is cool dude. He is like me in some ways. He is a superman in the day and a.. erm.. candy licker by night? However you take it. But of course, he is wayyyy hotter.
Super Leo!
And of course we had an awesome time there! A very random group of friends I had with me that night, my colleagues, my secondary school friend, my friend i met on twitter and my "childhood" friend I met back then during my secondary school days.
Anyway, the candy shop is here to stay. You can check out Avatar on every Wednesday where they bring in "Candy Shop" for all you party animal. The party animals that night kinda like those candies I must say, it was all out before I knew it. (Yeah, it's Singapore and It's free. The magical "marketing couple" )

Anyway, check out more pictures from that night's party here! Or just click and look at the girls. I really like one of the girls. Too bad I didn't see her that night. And she is really cute!
The one on the right.

Mr.Smith, I can take you to the candy shop, you can lick my lollipop ~

Jeremy Lin and Singapore's NBA Scene.

Smithankyou     2/15/2012 04:16:00 PM     9gag, JeremyLin, meme, NBASmith, Video     1 comment
If you still have no idea who Jeremy Lin is, watch this :

This chap scored a career high of 38 points against my team Lakers and Kobe. WTF!!

And thanks to him, everyone on facebook is talking about NBA. Even peeps who doesn't watch NBA is talking about NBA, peeps who stop watching NBA after Michael Jordan left the game or since Starhub stop showing good matches. -.- NBA channel is bullshit, they will actually telecast some NBA documentary over live match of Lakers against Nuggets. If you really want to watch, get the NBA League Pass!

I could hardly remember when was the last time NBA feed came from anyone else other than myself on the facebook timeline.

I started watching him during Golden State Warriors time where he didn't have much playing time as the guard position was mostly occupied by Ellis and Curry. So the video that left me an impression of him last season was actually the one with Nigahiga.

Like what the video said, I got my eyes on him cause he is the first American Chinese to be in NBA.

So how good is this guy? He play 6 games as a started for Knicks so far and they won 6 games in a row. 6 games above 20 pts average and career high of 38 against Kobe? Take a crack at it - Quote from NBA.com

"Lin led the Knicks to a 4-0 week, averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals. His 109 points over his first four career starts are the most by any player since 1976-77, and he became the first player in NBA history to tally at least 20 points and seven assists in each of his first four starts. Lin scored a career-high 38 points on Feb. 10, in a 92-85 win over the Lakers."

This guy already set some records man!

No doubt Jeremy and social media did help NBA make a small "comeback" in Singapore but it still pisses some of us regular NBA followers in some way.  Comparing him with some of the all star players and even MJ? We've seen so many bright stars who didn't last long. No, I am not taking his credit away, I do believe that he is good(or at least so far so good) but it's just a little early to compare him with the hall of famers. It's just like how every other soccer player is the next "Maradona" but seriously how many Messi can we find?(Using a soccer player reference for the sake of soccer fans.)

Anyway, I thought since Jeremy Lin is so popularmainstream now, I wanna create a meme using him! Mainstream Lin!

#FOREVERALONE DAY

Smithankyou     2/14/2012 05:06:00 PM     9gag, foreveralone, valentines day     No comments

Apparently I am seeing more people on twitter/facebook celebrating #FoeverAlone Day > Valentine's Day. So What happened? Nothing much of difference I guess.  I've already spotted the pattern last year about how people were complaining about V day but apparently 9gag and it's #Foreveralone just glorified this day I guess.

As for me? I suppose work kinda swamp me today and I didn't manage to make any surprise for my Ah Dum and in fact we are going to attend lions club dinner later in the evening which means no V day for us, but we did spent some good time together last weekend at Nandos beach party and dinner on the following day.

Did getting engaged change things? I don't think so but I suppose our timing were just kinda difficult to match but frankly I'm a little sad with myself for not planning something nice and flowers and all on this V day. it's just me i guess. HAHA.

Mr.Smith, FOREVERALONE FTW!!

Why do people lie?

Smithankyou     2/12/2012 12:35:00 AM     lying, Thoughts     No comments
Lying always seem to be the easy way out for many things that people hate in life. For example, argument, getting themselves out of trouble, duties and even many more. Is lying really a solution? Or is lying an effect of certain plays.

Why do people lie? Is there a need to lie? Is lying a cause or an effect? Can lying really solve problems? or does lying creates more problems? How can one judge what is a white lie and what is not? Not everything is black or white in life, so do we have a grey lie? I think a grey lie is a lie itself when your lie ain't really a good intended one but you just wanna feel better. that's a grey lie i guess.

Lie is ...

Anyway, I think lying is a form of escape. An escape from responsibility and an escape from reality and it is an effect to me. An effect of fear and disagreement from another party.

Let's take a crack at some examples.

Truth - "I went to the bar" vs Lie - "I was at work"

: Is going to the bar all bad? No. So why did the person have to lie about being at work instead? Cause the mum/wife disapprove of him going to the bar to kill his liver or spent too much money? So if the mum/wife is totally cool about it, does he have to lie about it? No. But of course if he ain't earning enough, probably he SHOULD be at work.

Truth - "I didn't do my home work cause I forgotten about it" vs Lie "I left my book on the table"

: both sounded just as bad but I am sure you used this lie before somewhere during your school days. Why? Cause we have this idea that not bringing means forgetful and not doing means you are a bad student. So we decides to take the risk and lie about it. If the teacher take the truth as it is, does the kid need to lie?

Truth - "Yes hunny, you look fat in those jeans" Vs Lie -"Those jeans looks great. it fits perfectly"

: Fine, this is a bad example. In fact the question about "Do I look fat in this jeans" is a trick question itself. but men do not want such trouble. Men decides to lie about it but if the woman is fine with the real truth, does man need to lie?

Born Liars?

So are men liars by default or is it an effect of women's action? I did mention that it is the fear in the person that caused them to lie in certain situation, fine, men bear the responsibility that they dare not tell the truth, but will things be on their side if they did tell the truth? NO.

The Truth about the cow and the river.

No, I am not encouraging people to lie but I am encouraging people to accept facts at sometimes. Give each other the due respect that there are differences in each other and there are different options between people and their living habits. It is not always right or wrong and definitely not always you are right and he is wrong. Think about it. If you think that certain person always lie to you over every single things about his/her life, it could be you who is driving this person up that way. Although yes, i agree with the saying that "If the cow doesn't want to drink water, leading him to the river wouldn't help" but me too believe that you should take the credit for "bringing him to the river" cause "if he ain't by the river, he ain't got any water to drink to begin with", simply put it - you did give him that option, didn't you?

Lie Vs Truth

Ok, this is a joke and it's on 9gag.com btw. Please vote for me if you like it. HAHA.

Mr.Smith, I'm awesome. No, that's not a lie. #TrueStory

I FINALLY BEAT RONDY!

Smithankyou     2/08/2012 04:56:00 AM     card game, friend, magic, mtg, nerd, rondy, TBBT     No comments
Most of you guys should know how much time I spent playing games. From computer/console games to the more traditional board/card games. They have always been a part of my life and I really enjoy a good game as strategizing a game and winning it makes me feel really good. I enjoy the beauty of the games and the adrenaline rush from a good competition. There times that you might lost a game but still enjoyed the process but of course there are also times you do not enjoy losing. Like for example losing to Rondy. HAHA.

This has to go a little back into the history for you guys to get what I am talking about. I started playing my favorite card game at the age of 15 during secondary school. I spent too much time and money on this game but I never regret any bit of it as I really love this game. I spent a good 2-3 years playing it actively with 3 of my buddies, Rondy, David and Willis. (Like buying new cards or joining tournament) Some of us stop shortly after we got into poly but the game is always with me. I still use some of my older decks I kept to play with my poly classmate as well as campmates during army. I wouldn't say I am very good but I am sure I was kind of slightly above average back then when I was very active but there is this person I could never beat.

That's almost like us.
And that is Rondy. Rondy is not only good with the card knowledge and the game's know how but he is also very experience and looking at him playing his cards is almost like him putting up a show. He will not just play the game but also read the opponent's move and small little habits. He is also a very good teacher when it comes to Magic and he is never stingy about teaching us what to do and how to play the game right. And it makes me really want to beat him even more in his own game.

Damn it Rondy! You Beat me AGAIN!

He will always be the one getting the better cards during draft session and always the one winning it all since school days and in fact when Willis, David and I stopped playing the game, he got more into it. He was once Singapore top player and actually represented Singapore to play this so call silly little card game to many in different part of the world.

That's Rondy at some magic event at TOKYO!
Recently, the four of us decided to gather together once again to play this game. We will buy a box and play it at our free time and sell away the cards so we have money to buy the next box at a cheaper price. I am very happy I get to play this game once again although not as active as we use to but we still join the tournament once every 3months or so. Rondy would always teach us what to do with all the updated cards and all.

Something awesome happened tonight. I BEAT RONDY! Like for the first time in X years in draft. I finally beat him! I mean it might be no big deal cause the game consist of certain luck factor as well but it's Rondy that I just beaten. I know, there is no price or what not but I am still happy!

Anyway I am happy the four of us are gathering together more often these days and playing some serious card games. (And drinking and party of course.)

Card Game Nerd!

And yes, those ARE magic the gathering cards.

P.S : This blogpost is suppose to be a joke just to troll Rondy that I beat him like for once and if you are taking it seriously as if I am trying to show off, you have to just f off and die.

Mr.Smith, tap this, untap this, 4 mana floating and I cast this. BAM! I win.

SuperStar Virgo Re-launch Event

Smithankyou     2/08/2012 04:27:00 AM     cruise, event, omy     No comments
I never had a great impression about all the cruise thanks to movies like Titanic and Poseidon. I always have this fear that something bad is going to happen and the next thing before I know it I have too say the epic "You Jump, I Jump" line and to realize that it ain't really that romantic to die during a holiday.

I mean on top of that, I also never like the idea as I thought that it ain't really fun to be trapped on a ship for whichever number of days? I guess I was wrong cause being on a cruise can be really fun especially when you have the right group of people!

I was on the SuperStar Virgo with Mint, Silver, Rachell, Alvin and William! We were lucky that it's CNY period and we get to do our lou hei ! Not just any lou hei but one which is on the sea!

Mint, being special and eating it with fork n spoon!

And a CNY event will never be the same without a lion dance celebration right? And did the Lou Hei and Lion dance bring us any luck?

We had a test of lucky immediately on the cruise, we had some games of bimbo! I mean, BINGO!

Sad to say ladyluck weren't on our side as none of us won anything from this games. And in fact we lost pretty badly! Badly as in like we were nothing near. -.-

And there after we were brought around to enjoy a tour on the cruise. And that is when I realize that the cruise actually has a lot of facilities! We were pretty amazed by the facilities and we actually got separated from our tour guide shortly into the tour but I am pretty sure we didn't miss anything even without him.

They actually have this very nice looking theater which comes with they own showtime. Too bad there weren't any shows when we were there but this place sure reminds me of GLEE!

And they actually have a writing room and library too! So would there be where all the bloggers are just to do their writing? And guess what else I found right beside?

A MAHJONG ROOM! I suppose we will spend a lot of time in there if we are really there to stay overnight. HAHA!

And they even had some outdoor activities like golf! It was a shame I didn't get to show off my skill to the rest of the bloggers! Actually no.. I have no clue about golf. HAHA.

There were also other facilities such as a casino, a pub with live band, arcade, night club, swimming pool and many more!

And we were also brought around to look at the suite! I must say their suite looks way too awesome! It was so awesome that I stare blank and didn't take any pictures. But lucky for you guys that Rachell took some really awesome pictures of the suite.

That's Rachell, Silver and me photobombing. heh! oh wait. I was talking about the suite!

SEE! The bed makes you feel like an emperor from China!! Super awesome! You can check out the rest of the pictures from Rachell's blog! :)

Although we did not get to sail out into the sea or try out some of the facilities, we still did enjoy ourselves talking, walking around and camwhoring. I must say that the cruise is really huge! We were all so tired after the event! And I was actually surfing their website for offers! I wanna bring the family onto the cruise too! And if you too are interested you can check out their website! I heard they will be having some awesome deals in the upcoming NATAS FAIR!

http://www.starcruises.com/newweb/homepage.aspx

SUPERSTAR VIRGO!! I WANNA GO!! (Hey see! it rhymes okay!)

Mr.Smith, row role roll your boat.. eh wait.. cruise no need roll one right?
