'Bai Swee' by SKLO

Smithankyou     7/31/2013 11:30:00 AM     Art, FreeStickerLady, singapore     No comments
During one of the Saturday afternoon when I was running some errand in town, I actually stumble upon this piece call "Bai Swee"  by SKLO (If you have no clue, she is our latest national art hero - Free Sticker Lady.) in front of The Cathay.

Majestic Malayan Tigers.

'Bai Swee', in the Hokkien dialect, means 'only for show or display purposes'. Which leaves us to think what is real anymore?

The one majestic Malayan tigers are now merely puppets of the human race. As their strength and dominace in the world wane, we can only see their former selves portrayed and kept alive by their human keepers. Here lies a grim reminder that we have to work harder to preserve what nature offers or soon we will only have soulless and empty shells of the Malayan tigers.

The greed and selfish intentions of humans have caused a steep decline in the number of tigers in the wild. Many of these majestic felines have been hunted for their parts to be used in traditional medicine. Tiger parts, like any other animal parts can be replaced by alternative formulas in traditional medicine. So what excuse do people still have to buy tiger parts for their own selfish need?

I might not be Chinese medicine expert and not know how we can replace them with alternative medicine but I like this piece. I like the satire in this about how the once dominating tiger is nothing more than human's puppet. Isn't that just how our world is now? We(the human) has dominated the world and although we have people fighting for the rights of such animals and their "welfare" but can they ever be free and back at their nature habitat like how they were? Are keeping them in cages really what they want? Will a fighter want to die on the battle field or live a peaceful life? So do we rather live a life of what we are suppose to do or just 'bai swee' and tell people what we could have done could be doing and not doing?

Anyway I really like some of SKLO's work and her style. Although I can't say much about how I agree with the way the media has made her "famous" but I still like her work and admire her style. What she has done is definitely not just to bai swee but also to inspire the rest of the people to stand up for their own right and do what they should do and don't bai swee. (I guess, or at least this is how I feel.)

Like Russell Peter says - "Be A MAN! Do the Right THING!"

This piece of work is actually part of Night Safari Art Seen & Herd.

*This post is NOT an engagement post by Night Safari. Views are my own.

God Says Sorry to Pastor Kong Hee.

Watch this:

I might not be the best person to comment on this video since I am no Christian and in fact I call myself a man "lost in faith" for now.

I've went through most but not all of the comments on this Youtube video and it seems to me that it's not quite possible that God apologise(to him) according to Netizen. I'm not too sure about how impossible or how possible this can be but I just wish to say, faith at the end of the day is something that keeps you afloat, keeps your life meaningful for many individual, if that is what it is for him to keep him sane, why is it not possible?

I am more curious about what do those people that have been and still standing by him thinks of him now. Does that man on stage looks sane to you? Is he still the same leader? I mean we follow our leader and more over a religions one but I am sure there is a limit to trust and believe? How many of those who clapped during the talk (or better known as service?) really did clap because they believe or is it simply because of pure respect or worst still, peer pressure?

Like I say from the beginning, I am no one to judge and in fact I am in no good position at all. I'm only questioning all these from a neutral ground or at least I'm trying to be as neutral as possible. I know there are many individual out there who have supported him(or still supporting him) are my friends and peers. All these years they have been taking flames and what not as they are the "branded" church. Can they still take this one as well? If "we" are all the followers and believer of God, why let the differences between the messengers divide "us"? That is the reason why "we" all pray to the same God but yet we have all these different churches?

What is your respond to this clip if you are from CHC? What is your respond to this clip if you are a Christian from another church? Are you jumping into conclusion and say no to this? Do we not believe in miracles?

Regardless of the "truth" (or whoever that voice belongs to), this video did make quite a bit of noise on the social web and hashtag #godnehsaysorry seems to be getting a little bit of attention?

What is your #GodShouldSaySorryToYouMoment?

Are you a boobs man? Do you know the type of boobs?

Smithankyou     7/29/2013 12:58:00 PM     breast, breast cancer, event, Humour, pink ribbon walk     No comments
We generally categorize men into the boobs man, legs man, ass man, face man or a man man. Regardless of what turns you on (better), every man has their own meat(literally this time) and poison.

For me, I'll say I'm a classic(typical) man - the boobs man. So how many types of boobs are there?

Before all you feminist out there jump on me saying that I am looking at woman as sexual object(which I can't deny but I wouldn't say that's the only way I look at woman.) I have a mission along with this post.

I bring you the reminder of the Pink Ribbon Walk.

Event VenueMarina Bay Waterfront Promenade
Event Date28 September 2013, Saturday at 5pm
Guest of HonourDr Amy Khor, Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Manpower
Event4.1km Pink Ribbon Walk
Entry FeesPrices include GST and proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
There are so many runs each year but why this? For me, it's not so much about the run but the story behind this run. I have read articles about woman giving breast cancer treatment a pass or keeping it to themselves because of fear. Not the fear of death but the fear of making them a lesser woman or their husband loving them any less. Even as a "breast man" I would say that breast ain't everything and support from husband, boyfriend and even partner is very important.

So if you love breasts, do your part. Remind your love ones(or pair in this case) to go for checkups and also support the pink ribbon walk!

Mr.Smith, love me tender love me sweet. Take care of them please be sweet.

#MusicMonday - Favourite National Day Songs.

Smithankyou     7/29/2013 08:30:00 AM     current affairs, MusicMonday, nationalday, NDP, singapore     No comments
National Day is just around the corner and apparently our new National Day song ain't exactly our favourite I guess.

I'm usually a really patriotic person especially when it's national day and the song really brings the mood out but this year's song is just a disaster. Even Stephen Chow agrees.

Here is a "review" of all the songs from the previous years: (It's actually a playlist.)

So which is your favourite?

My favourite has to be Kit Chan's - There's no place I rather be.

The lyrics and her voice really gives me that touching chill. She is the Singapore's voice.

Another one which really stuck in my head is the one by Kira. It's a memorable one as it is the one that I was involved with NDP parade and I probably listened to that song 968775172361231 times.

And I really miss Stefanie Sun's song too!

And of course, once again the ultimate classic. The one that everyone can sing. My hair stand every time I listen to this. The one and only - HOME.

Seriously, can we have that Dick back and write the real stuff?

Question: Why must we need a new song every year?

Singapore's real Dick.
Mr.Smith, OH OH OH OH OH

想你的星期五。。。

Smithankyou     7/26/2013 08:04:00 PM     chinese, diary, missing you, will, will leong     No comments

痛。。。好痛。。。

I got Kiwi-fied thanks to Zespri kiwi blogger challenge!

Smithankyou     7/26/2013 01:50:00 PM     blog, diary, Feature, Grace Tan, random     No comments
One of the biggest satisfaction I get from blogging is not about the fame(which is almost non-existent even in my imagination) and free gifts but more about the hot chicks incredible people you met along the way. Amongst all the awesome people is the Award winning blogger/Author/Coach and blog teacher(? I'm not sure if that is the term but she gives talks and seminar about blogging! Cool job right?) - Grace Tan!
Picture kope from Gracetan's blog!
Before you guys think that I am talking about her simply because of her pretty face you guys are wrong. Although I do appreciate a pretty face but Grace is more than a pretty face.

Grace is one of those people who I really respect - Dream Chaser. She gave up her job of few hundred thousand a year to be a full time blogger. As much as I wish to say I can be doing the same, but actually I can't. Not even about giving up a job that pays me that well but the part that I haven't even had a job that pays me that well. HAHA. I wonder who I have to kill to get such a pay cheque. (Enough of digress.)

Anyway, I was very honoured to be featured on her blog, in fact again! Grace's blog interviews successful people, celebrities and even millionaires. Not sure what is her secret formula (maybe 1 day I should interview her for a change!), but she managed to get in contact with these people and amongst these people was me! (I must be successful in some way too right?)

Read previous interview here.

So what did I do this time to get featured? Can't probably interview me twice right? This time round I was Kiwified!

Grace is running for some contest and the creative mind of hers actually came out with this! Making Kiwi to bloggers or should it be the other way?

And yes! I think these Kiwis really represents me pretty well! My previous "stage image" - Superman and of course Bikini girls (Self explanatory)!

It was really sweet of her to feature me! Read full article here.

Sorry to the rest of the bloggers but looks like Grace is going to win this again!

Mr.Smith, KIWIIIII~~~ (not bananananananana this time,

Things to do at Boracay - World Best Beach!

Smithankyou     7/25/2013 08:30:00 AM     boracay, boracayescapade, omy, sponsored post, travel     2 comments

Without a doubt, Boracay was named 2012 No.1 World’s Best Island, as featured on NBC’s Today Show… Boracay has been named as this year’s world’s best island getaway by an international travel magazine but that doesn't means it's only about lying around on the beach whole day doing nothing or just taking photos. There's more activities than your could imagine!
Photo by Jerome Lim: Me shooting Christina in the sleeping Buddha Style.
Acitivity – Banana boat PHP250 per person
A relax but yet fun activity for all. Do not worry that they might swing you around or you might fall into the sea. It's a very enjoyable right where you get to just sit and view the island from beyond the island!

Activity – Helmet diving PHP600
Love fishes and deep blue sea but can't dive or hardly swim? Helmet dive is the activity for you! Simply wear the helmet which is filled with pressure and down you go! To be frank I was a little worried that the water will enter the helmet but all is fine and easy! I even get to feed the fishes some bread and get all the attention! LIKE!

Activity – Paraw sailing PHP1,000
Photo kope from Valyn Lim
This is also another one of the more relaxing activity where you get to sit back and relax. No sweat, no adrenaline unless you are a pussy like me. I am paranoid that my camera will drop into the sea cause I am extremely clumsy. Thus most of my pictures that has the sea are "stolen" from others! It's good to travel with bloggers!

Activity – Island hopping PHP750 per person
Beautiful View at Crystal Cove
The Island hoping tour will bring you around to few of the more popular islands amongst the 7,000+ islands. YES! You read that right - it's 7000+- and why "-"? Because some of the island will be missing "under" the sea when it's high tide! I joke that I will not get married if I'm a Boracay native cause I can have a few GFs at different islands and nobody will know!
The pretty Tsubaki from Ninja Girls!

Activity – Cliff Diving @ Aerial Point PHP1500 per person
One of the best picture of the trip by Jerome Lim (again) or William Tan.
This is one that got my heart coming out from my mouth. We actually paid money to jump into the sea! There's a choice of 2m, 5m, 8m and 15m. Most of the group did 5m including myself besides Han Joo. The quietly looking girl next door is actually a devil inside. She went for the 8m without any hesitation. I did a 5m and my I actually 问候 everybody's relative after that. The boat didn't manage to stop at this destination due to the waves and we actually had to do a short swim towards and back from the cliff. The swim was really enjoyable actually. The water was so clear and nice to swim in! I was pretty impressed that most of the ladies did it too!

Activity – ATV Ride PHP1000
Han Joo looking all pro!
Can't ride in Singapore? No problem! A simple to drive vehicle known as the ATV. It was pretty cool for us as we had a convoy of 13 ATVs on the road! It's quite an experience for someone who can't drive like me. I kinda wished that I can have it off-roads into the tracks though. But I guess I wasn't pro enough for that option so we could only ride together.

Activity – Zipline
The anticipation of this activity drove me crazy as I was a little scare but for some reason I was one of the last to do it. I never knew I was that scare of such activities but I guess it comes with age. But when I actually was zooming down the line it wasn't really that scary and pretty enjoyable as you get to see quite a nice view while zooming down the line.(If you could keep you eyes open.)

Activity – Horse Riding PHP1000
One of the few activities that I gave it a pass cause I wanted to give the horse a break and when I say break I mean rest and not break as in breaking it's back. I have no idea how much weight it can take but I do not want to risk it. But apparently the ladies had a good time riding it and taking pictures. So pretty right!

Activity – Segway PHP1000 - 1800

Something that I always wanted to try but was too expensive to try it locally. This was way too fun. I got the hang of it pretty quickly and was zooming around disturbing the rest. I actually asked the owner if we could have some games with it such as polo or hockey sort and he told me nobody was doing it yet. So mark my words, if that game ever happened, I thought of it 1st. HAHA.

Activity - Bus Driving

From the look of everyone else in the bus, you pretty much have guessed it that this is not real. So yeah, no bus driving for anyone.

Activity - Bargaining
Someone is very happy about the discount.
Almost a must practice when buying thing off the street which I suck at. The conversation probably goes like this all the time:

"How much?"
"300 peso."
"Cheaper?"
"Okay, 250."
"2 for 400 peso?"
"Too low."
"2 for 420 peso?"
"Ok lor."
"Eh, you want another piece? I only wanted one actually."

Activity - Taking pictures of others taking pictures - PRICELESS

Si bei siao on shooter.
Most Glamorous shooter.

Chillax Shooter.

When the place is so pretty, those shuttle bugs just wouldn't stop. We were always behind schedule course these people just wouldn't stop shooting!!

Activity - Camwhoring - PRICELESS
Regardless if we have our top on.
out in the sea.
with our guide.
in front of the toilet.
Having a drink.
With a pretty girl.
or not -
WE MUST CAMWHORE!

This is a quick view of some of the things we did at Boracay! You have to see it to believe it! Whatever it is, it's more fun in the Philippines!

Mr.Smith, lazy blogger is lazy so only quick summary.

Back from Paradise.

Smithankyou     7/24/2013 12:32:00 PM     boracay, boracayescapade, diary, omy, sponsored post, StickySmith, travel     No comments

Friends who know me know that I am not a very well traveled person for many reasons and 1 of them is that I'm simply lazy to leave my comfort of having "everything" in Singapore but I guess I was wrong. My visit to Boracay was simply awesome and worth the effort of packing and stepping out of my house.

I am finally back! Burnt and Bloated. I am like 2 tones darker than my Malay colleague and I'm constantly feeling bloated from all the eating. I've so much to say and share about the adrenaline rushing activities I did as well as all the awesome places we visited in Boracay and of course my awesome companions. Hope I have the motivation to sort out all the pictures and information and share with you guys real soon.

I've met some new friends during this trip and I also get to know some of my friends better. You know what they say about traveling and friendship. It's either you hate someone after that or fall in love with them. I'm lucky as I have a good group companion for the trip and I just fall in love with all of them.

Meanwhile this is one of my favorite pictures that I took using Christina's Camera shooting her.
The "Celebrity" Travelgraphy
Watch out while these crazy people spin the stories and share their nice pictures!

Picture by William who is also in the pic.
From left to right, Jerome, William, Hazel (Client no url ;P.) Catherine, Han Joo, Smith, Clara, Tsubaki from Ninja Girls, Christina, Karen, Melissa and Valyn.

Check out OMY Boracay "mini site" and check out their blog post!

Mr.Smith, best trip ever.

Singapore & Malaysia Street Food Fiesta At Azur.

Smithankyou     7/16/2013 10:30:00 AM     Food, Food Review, sponsored post, StickySmith     No comments
This August, as the people of Singapore and Malaysia celebrate each country's respective National Days, Azur will launch our Singapore & Malaysia Street Food Fiesta.

Of course, they are serving more than just chicken. The problem lies on me as I am the one who can only draw a chicken. And dear Malaysian friends please excuse the ugly MY flag.

On top of their usual mouth watering buffet menu, these are some of the additional food that you will be expecting at the buffet.

Ipoh Hor Fun
Flat rice noodles, shredded chicken, shrimp, Chinese mushrooms, greens and gravy topped with fried shallots and green pickled chilli
Black Pepper Sri Lankan Crab
Curry Yong Tau Foo
Sambal Stingray on Banana Leaf
Oyster Omelette with Chinese Celery
Cheng Teng Gelee
Local favorites with a special touch by Azur's chef making things original and at the same time different. Where else can you find awesome seafood, international cruise plus local favourites?

I find the food pretty interesting. It gives you a familiar but yet different feeling. What surprises me the most has to be the Curry Yong Tau Foo. It's not too spicy but the gravy is still very thick and strong.

You have to try it to believe it. (And of course, not to forget my usual favorites like oysters, crabs, sashimi, prawns, beef and the list goes on.)

More Information.

Singapore & Malaysia Street Food Fiesta is available on weekends for brunch and dinner.
Brunch (8 – 11, 17 – 18, 24 – 25, 31 August, 1 September 2013)
