Keong's wedding

Smithankyou     4/25/2018 10:57:00 AM     Friends, keong, wedding     No comments

This is my friend Keong and I. It was his wedding some weeks ago. (Or was it days? I can't remember. Life has been on the fast lane these days. Yes, it's already April! WTF!) Keong and I have been friends for a long time. Since I was 17? Keong and I used to be really tight despite the lack of common interests. He plays tennis (high ses sport) while I play basketball. He plays his FPS on his computer while I play mine on my Playstation 2,3,4 (That's how long we've known each other) but despite that, we know we are the type of friends who will always have each other's back. He was there when I needed him to help me for my wedding, for my brother's funeral, in fact everything. We used to do so many things together. And oh, we do have a common interest. MAMBO! It's funny how Keong is so into mambo as he is never one of those clubbing, hitting on girls, or drinking kinda person. He just like the whole old skool arm dancing thing. Me? I like all the things that I mentioned that he doesn't like. Ahhh. We complete each other that way I guess.

Of course, things haven't always been like this. We did not exactly start our friendship off on the right foot. We were classmates in polytechnic and I didn't like him because he was too casual. He didn't like me because well, I'm too much of an asshole and rowdy. Things changed quickly, we became friends we still have our difference. There were times he pissed me off or I offended him but at the end of the day we are still friends despite drifting apart after both of us having our own career and me having my son. That little thing takes up a lot of time and energy trust me.

We used to spend so much time together that I know his friends and he knows mine. In fact we even knows each other's parents pretty well.

I'm not a big wedding guy, Keong didn't have the most exciting wedding but I'm truly happy for them. I'm really happy that he's finally married. In fact I was just happy he got a girlfriend back then. hahaha.

I felt almost like a proud father the other day at the wedding. I have tried my best to get him hitched over time, helping him get gifts for girls, telling him what to wear, where to go, what to say and all but I guess I'm not exactly the best master. He was single for a very very long time. LOL.

Hope you like the pictures Keong! Happy wedding! :D

What people say when they first meet me

Smithankyou     8/31/2015 11:11:00 AM     diary, Friends, Humour, online friends, social media     No comments
We always talk about the importance of 1st impression back in the good old days where people only start to interact with each other upon meeting new people in business or social setting. Is the game still the same considering how we actually make friends way more often online with the help of social media? Be it reading someone off their Twitter, Blog, Instagram or even dating sites such as Tinder or adultfriendfinder Paktor, we will always have an online impression of the person even before we meet them. How often are these two persona the same?

It's not easy be a super hero, fighting crime and at the same time go out with all my friends. I actually do have a lot of friends that I've never really met in real life but we spend a lot of time online chatting and bitching about people life. Below are some of the things that people tell me when they 1st met me after being my online friend for awhile. Yes, don't judge. We now make friends online all the time.

You are actually taller than I thought!

My Reply: That is because I am only the size of your iPhone or monitor screen which ain't 180cm tall. So ya. I am taller. #SanksEverybodySanks

You actually sound better than your writing

My Reply: Not even if it is a real compliment about me being well spoken or having very bad writing skill. But that ain't something new to me. I know my flawed grammar, bad sentence structure and also how lazy to proof read something twice. Which is why I always feel blessed that people still read my silly writing online.

I always imagined you to be very (more) chin chong

My Reply: Actually I am. Like I have this sticker that says "Ah Beng Inside". Growing up from a dialect speaking family and hanging out with the ah bengs from neighbourhood school did make me rather chin chong but I guess I got a little less chin chong along the way when I started working and mixing with people in the advertising and media industry. I would say I'm pretty versatile.

You are one of those few guys that have an exact same persona both online and offline

My Reply: In fact I find it very hard to be like those keyboard warriors to talk a lot online and feel so awkward in real life. It's really not hard to maintain a single persona when you are both an asshole on and offline. LOL.

I always thought bloggers are very snobbish but you are very friendly

My Reply: Sanks Sanks~ But really, don't use me as a bench mark for other broggers. Cause I am kinda lame and silly. I can't say the same for the other chao broggers.

You are really handsome

Fine... Said no one ever... :( #SadFace

So for those who have met me. Do you agree? For those who have yet to meet me. Ladies please drop me an email as for the guys.. erm.. see you when I see you.

The 10 Friends We All Have

Smithankyou     1/29/2015 12:09:00 PM     diary, Friends, Humour, Thoughts     No comments
It is never easy to make friends less say keeping them. The biggest problems about friendship is that everyone has different expectation from friends. Some expect your to always be there as friends, we need to honour trust, loyalty and whatever not code but to some, friends are just people we have in a social life and we can live with or without them. Inspired by recent events I thought I wanna talk about some friends we all have!

The dream friendship that everyone wished for.

1. The Leech
maybe also the one that sucks

I wish I could tell you that it is true that I've a friend that gives me a good blow job everytime I wanted it but I can't Because I am married and my wife might not be too happy because I do not have one. The truth of the leech is the one that always comes out and will tell you "sorry no money" Will never offer to buy any thing and even if she or he did they will probably say something like forget sorry.

The one that pinch on your food from your table, go out on a party or dinner and purposely say do not want to order because no money but say yes because people will say "nevermind lah, just order, we pay for you 1st", and start to post his or her "want" list during birthday period and hope you get for them.

Worst is he or she will actually be seen traveling, buying other gadgets at the end of the year. They ain't bad friend as long as you are rich enough, they can be the best of friends and listen to you and have fun together but they can seriously play the pitiful card and leech your moolah.

2. The Han "Solo"

This is han solo, we love this friend. He is cool, he is fun and he is the one person we can chat all night and tell him or her everything but the biggest problem is that he doesn't hangout well with anyone else. This person might be a little awkward in a group or just has very low EQ, whichever but basically this person's problem is that you only hangs out with him/her alone.

I am not sure about you guys but I love to mix my friends and show my friends my other cool friends but we all have this "Solo" friend that you can only meet him/her for drinks alone.

3. The one we all have no idea why we are still friends

This friend of ours deserves a high 5... with a chair... in his face... He/she sucks. He/she gets under your skin every time they talk. Everything they do piss me off, meeting them makes night longer than anything but we still meet up because we are from a same clique or because they are your friends' partner. Seriously the most painful "friend" anyone can get and not able to just cut them off.

4. The one who does all the Selfies

Because long arms are long and according to the internet, men who take selfies are psycho. I do not agree.

it's always good to have them around because there will always be memories left on the internet. Even those where you regretted.

5. The "I'm on my way"

That phone call probably went down like this,

"oie, we all reached liao. Where are you?"
"oh, sorry sorry, on the way.."

And your this person probably only reach in another 30 mins and the truth was "on the way... (to brush my teeth). Getting laid is cool but having to wait for late comer is not so cool. Don't you miss the days where we do not have mobile phone and everyone is always on time because we need to wait at the phone booths at Bedok interchange at the specific time.

6. The one that always jio

This is my favourite friend because they will always "jio" everyone out. I can be very lazy and passive when it comes to meeting up especially ever since I shifted into my own place where I just wanna lie around at home in my boxers and watch TV or play video games. It is this kinda friend that keep my social life going, asking us out, creating social event for the clique and make sure we stay connected. Thanks for being the best type of friends!

7. The one that always go "BO JIO"

This meme will never be famous if not for these askhole. Not even sure if we purposely do not wanna jio them or just that we really always forgotten about them but they are always there at almost every picture or check-in waiting to reply "#BoJIO". You might feel bad at 1st or this might even be funny for a start but after awhile you be like...

So ya, fuck you understand?

8. The Special Phone Call Guy - also the insurance agent,  property agent, MLM, getting married want your ang bao, son birthday want your ang bao, wanna borrow money, knows you are a blogger and wants free blog post guy.

The good thing about technology is that all our good friends are just 1 text or 1 phone call away but the bad thing is that our bad friends are also 1 text or 1 phone call away. Friends should always scratch each other's back without a doubt but this type of friends are seriously the virus of all friendsheep. (meh)

I've had this very bad experience with a "friend" that I have not met for years. He gave me a call and told me is a lunch catch up with everyone from yesteryear. When I drop a text to the rest, I actually found out that nobody knew about this so call catch up. Lucky for me to find out the truth before going down and rejected him. I heard another common friend didn't check and got cheated down to a session where it's only two of them and he sat and listen to a 2 hours long sales pitch about some magical product that can help him earn money. #TrueStory

9. The one who got away

Most of us probably have 1, 2 or more ex relationships as well as ex friendship but the later sounded a little weird but yet true and painful. We were like Superman and Lois Lane when things were good. We spent time together, we talk on phone, we wore the same watch and we call ourselves brothers from another mother which make my dad sounds like an asshole but we didn't care.

We have everything under our feet and we thought things will never change. We planned about being each others' best man and I want to marry my son to your daughter but things don't always go according to plan.

The one friend that we didn't imagine losing and we didn't even imagine that we do not and will not even speak of that name with anyone else anymore. The most painful memory. It can be argument of any form or even be because your partners just do not like them. It's a painful memory.

I had to camouflage my face you wouldn't see me anymore.

10. The Wrong Timing

One of my favourite quote from HIMYM. This usually happens between friendsof an opposite gender (most of the time). You guys are better than good and it's not a daily thing that people will ditch their partner for someone else they just met along the way or maybe the "window" (for those of you who ain't familiar with this term, check out How I Met Your Mother Season 5 Episode 10) just ain't right and things just never ever happened. That being said, being best friends and being partners ain't always the same so this friend is also known as the mayor of friendzone. We all know that things could be different someday in some other universe but too bad, not this one, at least not this one that we know.

---------------------------

It might not be international friendship day yet but I want to take this chance to thank all of you for being my friend and accepting me for who I am. Else, Fuck you.

here's one song Chinese KTV Kakis will sing especially when we are all drunk. LOL.

My Normal Friends.

Smithankyou     12/23/2014 09:36:00 AM     diary, Friends, normal village     No comments
Before we got all awesome and superb in doing what we are doing in life, we were once young executives that just started work with little commitment. We spent our days doing almost nothing much, loitering around our favourite 505 and Pavilion at Tampines. We eat our favourite 仙草 because 吃仙草吃不老, we drink our favourite alcohol weekly because 喝酒不啰嗦, we spend time on our forum and we sang those songs.

We don't care about how much we earn, who weights less, who is better or who has more followers on instagram a bigger dick and all we do is hangout and have fun.

We are the "Normal~" people.

Left to Right: Vic, Kong, Ah Chai and Me. Foreground: Mr.Ma Background: The guy you hardly see. Mr.Parker.
But because of two blogposts, my normal friend became a little less normal. They had friend pasting them a link and asking them, "Isn't that you??"

Photo was 1st seen on my post - Thai Club Culture in Singapore and later popularise by the site TheSmartLocal - 10 types of Singaporean Guys You Will Date in Your Life.

This picture was taken almost 5yrs ago during my 26th birthday. Back then 2/6 of us were attached, which makes 4/6 single if you pass your primary school math and now we are at 3/6 married and 3/6 attached. Time really just flew pass and before we know it we would be parents and see our kids clubbing and drinking.

Boys being boys, we did this shoot last week during Kong's wedding.

And in the spirit of keeping things the same, we had to bend low and cut Parker away. And of course, some of us didn't get our pose right.

I think we should keep it a tradition and do this every year for keep sake. Looking back we have already been friends for more than 10 years. Although we no longer hangout as often as we all have our own commitment and own gf and wife life. And also because our favourite Tampines Pavilion is no longer around, we still meet up once in awhile or talk on Whatsapp. Those were the days.

P.S. oh, don't ask us to wear the same clothes because we obviously put on a lot of weight already. LOL.

One Night in Geylang Serai

Smithankyou     7/17/2014 03:01:00 PM     diary, Friends, geylang serai, Hari Raya, malay blogger, minah, ramadan     No comments
Growing up in neighbourhood left me with a mouth full of bad taste when it komes to experience with anyone from the other race. I kan't say it's because they are rowdy or was it because of difference in culture but I guess I have to kredit it to our kommunication or the lack of it in fact.

I wasn't the most well spoken kid in school when it komes to English speaking and from my memory I was pretty sure they can't speak much mandarin either and I guess that's where miscommunication and unhappiness were developed.

I hardly have any Malay friends even until today but I was very lucky that I found my favourite Malay Kakak at the most unexpected place - work.

To be honest I do love some things about our Malay friends, their food and of kourse all the minahs minahs. (malay chicks in my understanding)

I've no klue who are they. Picture from Google Search - Minahs. But pretty hot right? Regret, never had a malay minah girl friend.
Bazaar at Geylang Serai

So when my ex-colleagues told me they were going to Geylang Serai Bazaar I was pretty excited cause I was pretty sure I kan have some Malay food and also fest my eyes with some minahs. Of course also have a good time gathering with my ex-colleagues.

#TeamMinah with Mel, Squid and my favourite Wad Da Fad~  A bit different from the minahs above but still can. :p

One thing we have to know about the Geylang Serai Bazaar is that it is the mother of all bazaar. You kan find anything you kan imagine and you kan't imagine. You will also see people selling funny things like toilet bowls and also kar. Other than that it would be the more normal stuff like food, karpet, kurtains and lights!

Seriously, who needs Zouk when you have lights like this in Geylang?

So besides the lightings and all I guess the highlight has to be these Malay Kuay Kuay. It feels like Chinese New Year but only better because their Kuay Kuays are really sweet and the Makcik (Malay Aunties) are really very warm. I mean as long as you can speak or understand Malay. That's one thing that turns me off sometimes. Some of these aunties kouldn't speak English which is why we need Minah friends! YAY!

Because we can!
Just sample only. Free lah sia!
Kookies that looks like donut! Pretty much.
And you know how we chinese gives these red packet thing for kids during CNY? They have something similar too but look at those designs! POWER!

"Malay Red Packet" - Cantik!
Pretty Lighting is Pretty~
The reason why it is the mother of all bazaar is because it's really huge, it's so huge it is like few bus stop worth of shops and I heard each of these stall can Kost you up to $10,000 SGD a month. W-O-A-H!

Being mother of all bazaars, they have seats by the road side that you can sit around and lepak. Or if it ain't really your style you can always check out koffee shop around the area!

It was a random meet up indeed but it sure was fun. It's always fun with these friends. Why? Is it because we kommunicated better as kompared to how I did when I was a kid or is it because we are way more open minded than everyone else? I wouldn't say we are geniuses but I would say we take life easier. We do not go all sensitive and on and on about how you are insulting my race or aku religion like people online. We laugh at each other's kulture and at the same time learn from it. I am glad I have Fadilah as a friend, I've learn many malay words and also about their kulture while we laughed at it. hahaha.

Like Rachie's best joke - "You know why the Malay guys go to Mosques on Fridays? Because Thanks God It's Friday." You have to admit this is pretty funny.

kan't wait for our next adventure together!

I am Abang Smith, people on the internet, take a chill pill lah siol...

Funny Ads in Singapore.

Smithankyou     5/27/2014 12:16:00 PM     advertising, Friends, Joey, macdonald's, pinkdot, singapore, SMRT     No comments

Have you ever felt so good about something like you want to scream on top of your voice?

Like for example, you thought you have a big break as an actor or model kinda thing?

That's my friend Joey the actor.
So he thought he had his big break in his modelling career some time back then...

But this happened instead...

He wasn't invited back home for thanks giving that year.
So very often when we go for an assignment things will might turn out differently. I remember I once shoot a short film with like 3-4 lines for 4-5hrs and my scene was cut till 0 lines and 5sec air time. Talking about bad acting. hahaha.

And guess what? Joey ain't the only unlucky guy.

Saw this SMRT ad yesterday about.. wait.. I have no idea what the ad was about because I was very tickled by the caption. And I really wonder if he knew what was coming (pun intended) his way. Really? I'm In? Who came out with that? Who presented that thinking it will be approved and WHO actually approved that? And when I thought it was bad enough.... Netizen gave me some inspiration to make it even worst better...

I hope I'm not getting into any trouble for this..
I really like this kinda ad where I can just change the caption accordingly... And I kinda went on...

This is kinda too much but I was very inspired by adweek.
You can get anything as long as you work out!
Truth and nothing but the truth!

Seriously people...

No muscles were hurt during the process of editing this Ad.
