Far East Square - BKT by Kong Kee

Smithankyou     4/29/2015 11:07:00 AM     Bak kut teh, bkt, bkt by kong kee, far east square, Food Review, giveaway, sponsored post     No comments
*Final Episode Of Smith Gives Away Far East Square Voucher. Details at the end of post if FREE voucher is all you want, but read this post lah. The food really damn nice.

I am quite a big fan of Bak Kut Teh. How big a fan? We would drive to JB just to pump petrol and eat to eat it. That's how much I like BKT. So today I am going to introduce to you a nice bak kut teh that you do not need to drive all the way to JB to have but it still taste as good. It is none other than BKT by Kong Kee(not Kong Hee) at Far East Square!

When it comes to BKT, the must have to go with for me and my wife has to be the You Tiao as well as the Salted Vegetable. And that bowl of soup above is actually pig stomach soup instead of BKT. If you are a big fan of pepper like me, you will actually be in heaven after drinking this!!

The best way to eat You Tiao!
Although this is not the 1st time I am trying a "dry bak kut teh" but surprising it still seems to be something very new to many people in Singapore. I really love this dry BKT. The cutter fish really adds a lot of flavour to it!

Dry Bak Kut Teh
This dry BKT is cooked with dark sauce, lady fingers, pork belly and like i mentioned, cutter fish so the flavour is really interesting. It is nothing like other pork rips that you have tried. Of course they still have the traditional soup based BKT and many other dishes.

Original KL Hokkien Mee

KL Hokkien Mee at BKT by Kong Kee
Although the shop name is BKT but there is this one dish that totally caught my attention and it is the Original KL Hokkien Mee!

Original KL Hokkien Mee
We always have this Hokkien mee around Singapore's hawker which is using the thicker bee hoon and yellow noodles but this is totally different. I have no idea how to explain what is inside but I do have 2 facts about this dish. 1. Damn awesome and 2. PORK LARD!

The serving is actually good for sharing for up to 3-4 pax if you are not a big eater and if you ordered other food but NO! It IS ALL MINE!!!
TL;DR Version

Shop Name: BKT By Kong Kee
Address:  19 & 20 China Street, Far East Square, Singapore 049561  Tel: +65 6536 3023
Opening Hours: 11:00am – 10:00pm Daily. (one of the very few shops that opens daily actually)
Must Try: Dry BKT and KL Hokkien Noodle
Final Verdict: Totally worth the money!
If you tell them you know Smithankyou: They will tell you : "huh?什么来的?"

Best Rainbow Cake in Singapore - Dean and Deluca

Smithankyou     3/31/2015 09:10:00 AM     9gag, dean and deluca, far east square, giveaway, rainbow cake, singapore rainbow cake, sponsored post     3 comments
*Far East Square Vouchers Giveaway at the end of article!! WOOHOO!!

If you are also a fan of 9gag you would totally understand my obsession with rainbow cakes. Yes, it is a 9gag thing.

Since then I have this crazy obsession with rainbow cakes and I've been trying to find nice ones. Sad to say most of them tasted very artificial and fake. Their cream are way too oily and creamy.

But lucky for me, I actually found a rainbow cake that tasted really good some months ago when I was having my Staycation at The Qunicy Hotel.

My date looking please

Every layer has its own taste and the cream weren't oily at all. This is like the only cake that i would eat all its cream!

So the hunt begins! Of course, I gathered that this cake was actually from Dean & Deluca because there was a sign there that says so (duh.. myself). And I did a quick search and they actually have a Dean & Deluca at Far East Square!
Always love how classy their renovation is.
And yes, we had our favourite rainbow cake once again after dinner!

Each Slice is $7.50. And they have other cakes too!
Obviously very greedy and can't control ourselves and got more than just the Rainbow Cake.
Down to nothing but rainbow dust very quickly
So if you are around the area and you have a sweet tooth. You must visit D&D for a slice of the famous Rainbow Cake! That's like a must do for me and my wife too. Can't wait to eat this soon!!!

Their rainbow cakes are really very popular so to avoid disappointment maybe you can give them a call before going down!

*Far East Square Vouchers Giveaway at the end of article!! WOOHOO!!

If there’s one thing every Singaporean have in common it has to be our love for food. I’ve never met any Singaporean that said that they hate food in Singapore. Singapore is like one of the best place to find good food and good food from all around the world. Believe it or not I’ve a friend from Japan who told me our Japanese food is even more authentic than what she had in Japan. #TrueStory

A Beng Gonna Squat Where A Beng Gonna Squat

So today Ah Beng want to introduce to you this very awesome place located in the heart of Singapore known as Far East Square. Some of you might get confused with Far East Plaza, Far East Shopping Centre or Far East Flora. To help you remember this easily, just remember that Far East Square is the one near China Town and they have lots and lots of good food! And if you are around the area during Mon – Fri lunch time, they also have many many eye candies. #Bonus

Lunch Time Favourite – Tucker Box

Chirashi Don

This place would be my go-to place if my office is around the corner. It is like Japanese Healthy Fast Food. Easy to get, buy back and it is totally tasty and value for money.  I am now dreaming about moving my office near the area.

Fine Dining Experience – JIN Fine Dining

Saga Beef Amiyaki

I was just telling my wife how much I am not into steak. I mean I love meat but I just feel that steaks are good by default but you just can’t find a lot of places that serves me good beef and I refused to get disappointed. But at Jin, I am never going to get any disappointment from this Saga Beef Amiyaki. The beef just simply melts in my mouth! And yes, I’m going back for more.

Ikura Chawamushi

This is the one Chawamushi that tasted like heaven to me. I’ve tasted many Chawamushi which tasted like nothing more than just eggs but this tasted like seafood, freshness all in one! This is surely a place you will bring someone to if you want to impress this person.

Family Gathering – Ju Chun Yuan

Pan Fried Pork Bun

Family gathering just became more important these days when you have moved out from your parents and sister. It’s one of those occasion that when you catch up you just wish to get everyone sat around the table and talk and not your mum rushing in and out of the kitchen cooking. Ju Chun Yuan not only have a nice menu of offerings on Chinese food but also a very interesting list of Fuzhou Street Food like Pan Fried Pork Bun, Pork Skin Dumping Soup and Red and White Glutinous Cake etc.  One of those places that puts a smile onto your parents!

Weekend Dating Special – Rustic Bistro

Truffle Mushroom Fritters

Rustic Bistro is one of those places where you would love to spend with you boyfriend/girlfriend over the weekend. It is not just pretty and laid back but it also has a very interesting food menu to offer. They have Laksa Pasta, Smoked Duck with Mushroom Aglio and my favorite Pork Belly with 63 Degree Egg! I think we have to visit this place like 3 or even 4 times just to try everything!
