My first Uberpool Experience

I'm sure you guys know the famous carpool program by James Corden. I've always wanted to have a show like this but there's a few problems.

1. I am not that talented like James. He can sing pretty well to be honest.

2. I am really not very good on the road so I guess I should really just focus on the road.

3. I don't think I have enough famous friends for this program.

So the closest thing I can probably do would be carpooling via the new Uberpool. After much hesitation I've finally decided to give Uberpool a try recently. Like many others, I find it pretty strange to ride with a stranger. I mean there's a chance I might bump into a serial killer right? Then again it depends on how many kills he/she have to commit before being considered a serial killer.

I digress.

So you do not need another app or what not. You just simply have to click the Uberpool button.  And wait.

Okay lah, I removed my address but I know you can tell where I was based on the map. And eh, I bet many of you didn't know what the hell is Serangoon island right! It is also known as Coney Island!

Anyway if you are sharp enough you will be able to see that I've already gotten a ride but the status is "looking for another rider"

Which means there's actually chance that you will just be alone with no pool mate.

5 mins into the ride, the both our phone got a notification and I'm gonna pool with DELFINA!!!

Who is this Delfina? Pretty? Friendly? Nice? Will we experience love in 1st sight? I CANNOT HANDLE THE ANTICIPATION!!! So... FACEBOOK LAH!

hmmm.. 3 mutual friends and also very married. I hope we are not picking her. 

Wah this one swee. not bad lah hor. but not much information about her. 

WAH THIS ONE DAMN POWER AH! WILL SHE BE WEARING THIS AS WELL??? 

Okay lah, none of that happened and my poolmate ain't any of the above. She's a sweet girl next door with a bike helmet. Not sure what's her story with that helmet but she was quite friendly. We talked a little about where we are going etc. 

So how this Uberpool works is that they will automatically calculate who should they drop off 1st. So be warned that there is a chance that you might be the first to get onto the ride, pick up 2 other strangers and drop off 2 of them and then it will be your turn. This first-in-last-out ride might take a very very very very long time. Because you know although by direction it is "on the way", going on the highway and exiting it and getting on again a few times really makes a big difference especially in Singapore's traffic condition. 

I got it lucky as I got a first-in-first-out trip so it wasn't as bad. My friend who tried it experienced a first-in-last-out and her trip was extended from 20mins to 75mins. 

So how much did I save from uberpool? 

I saved $9.84 and took about the same time as my usual ride.

Tips: Actually if you have two pax(you and your friend at the same location), and you are actually just doing short distance (for example from Chinatown to Orchard area like what we did during our photoshoots) it is pretty worth it.

Verdict - will I do this again? unlikely when I'm alone (unless I want to like meet girls or a lot of free time on hand). I really enjoy my private time on my ride like taking a nap or on the phone etc. Nevertheless it was a fun experience looking forward to meet new people randomly and being confined within the small space. Maybe MND can consider this as an event for singles!
