I must be glad that I did most of my dating in the early 2000s. I really ain't one of those guys who knows where to bring ladies for a good date. Romantic gesture from me, yes, but nice dining place probably ain't my forte. I am so mainstream when it comes to food that we will probably end up at hooters for western, loy kee chicken rice chinese, and sushi tei for japanese food. Maybe even mcdonalds' for my favourite double cheese burger.
I'm not saying those ain't decent food but with the blooming culture of hipsters cafe and indie restaurant, i am probably your worst date if you are judging me based on where we are having our meals. #CouldHaveBeenForeverAlone
If you have the same problem as me, don't worry as I have something to save your life. If you are looking at impressing some guests from overseas or some chicks during a date, or even just a place that you can visiting regularly - DIBS is the place.
LOVE THE RED MONSTER OUTSIDE DIBS! |
DIBS has been at duxton for slightly more than 2 years but they recently had a change of management and revamped their menu!
One of the things that really caught my attention was their food menu. Their food menu are written on small cards instead of the typical booklet or A4 size paper. Why? because they actually update and change their menu as often as every 1 - 2 months. To make things even more fun, they also offer a "?" card where you let the chef decides for you what to eat! Very good for ladies who can't make up their mind on dates. You can now look adventurous instead of indecisive, haha.
Parmesan Sticks. Truffle Egg white foam and Confit Egg Yolk |
Tasting portion of "Fresh Catch" - F.O.D with Nori CousCous Horseradish pea puree and Miso Glaze |
TomYam Pumpkin Risotto |
The team at DIBS gives me a feeling that they ain't in the business just because it is a business but rather because they really love their food. Each and everyone of their staffs are able to explain their food and share some insights to you. The service is really very good as you can feel that each and everyone of them do it with their heart! And just based on the menu and food we are getting, you could tell that they enjoy cooking and get creative with the dishes. TomYam Risotto? That must be the 1st right! (Okay lah, at least to me lor)
Special for the day - Tasting portion of Atas looking Bak Kut Teh! Yes, this tasted like Bak Kut Teh! |
This must be one of my favourite? It is so pretty and very tasty at the same time. The Chinese in me was telling the chef that I want to order a bowl of white rice? This is actually savoury and will taste really good with a bowl of rice! There goes my carbo count. LOL.
I really love their food selection. Besides the fact that is it rather creative and also that it ain't like deep fried stuff or very heavy stuff. It is the kind of food that you date will not complain about feeling fat after eating!! Totally suitable to bring your date there where both of you can erm, act demure and still have a good time instead of just munching on greens and pretending that you like it.
Is it very rude to say "fucking hell" was my highlight at DIBS when they have all the nice food? Fuck it, I love my fucking hell! |
Mac&Cheese. I did not tag this picture wrongly. It is Macarons and Dragonfruit Cheesecake! Creative right! |
They also have a very good selection of desserts which includes one of our hipsters favourite - Churros. Actually the MUST try dessert is the Chocolate Shell!! It was so good that erm.. I didn't take a picture of it. :p #Fail
So now you have heard about this place from me. I hope you can bring a date there to impress her. And if you do not have a date to bring, you can bring me. I do not mind going again really! (In fact I already went back after the food tasting session with a friend. Not a date lah, she is just a friend who came back to Singapore for holiday as she is currently working in HK. And she loved it too! See, #TestedProven)
