I still remember the first movie that I caught at the cinema was ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ in the 90s. This is no surprise but what would probably surprise you is that the whole movie was actually Chinese-dubbed. It’s not something we see anymore these days in the cinema but it was very popular in the 80s/90s where many of the movie-goers were still Chinese-educated. I’m not kidding you, Leonardo’s Chinese name was 蓝天使 and Raphael’s was 红豆冰. LOL.
Ever since then, I’ve became a huge movie fan. I love the concept of spending a good 2 hours “becoming someone else”. During this short period of time, I do not need to think about work, whether I have packed my bags for tomorrow’s trip, how many other articles or photos I’ve to edit and complete by tonight. I just become someone else. I become the tiny little guy who needs to return a piece of important jewellery to a volcano, I become the guy who wears an overpriced black suit and fight aliens, or I can even become the guy who is sitting opposite Meg Ryan in the diner where she showcases her epic acting skill in public. (Everyone remembers that scene, comon.)
I love to watch movies but sadly after the arrival of this little one, it’s really not easy for us to hit the cinemas and catch the latest movies anymore. You have no idea how many good movies I’ve missed these days. (No lah, not 50 Shades Darker. I’m really not into that movie. REALLY!)
