AirAsia invites you to Thailand – Land of Shop and Dine!

Smithankyou     7/05/2017 11:23:00 AM     air asia, bangkok, thailand, thailand shopping and dining paradise, travel     No comments

Nope, I didn't get my facts wrong. While I know that Thailand is better known as the Land of Smiles but with the way things are happening in the country now, I think Land of Shop and Dine is pretty apt too!

I will usually hit Bangkok every 1 - 2 months not just because of my business there but also because my love for this place. THE FOOD! And I don't just mean Thai food but the wide choice of international cuisine as well.

Besides the food, there's the shopping too!  I always visit Bangkok with a huge (empty) luggage even if it's just for a 3D2N trip I will load it up with my shopping - clothes, snacks, toiletries and even props for my photography and videography projects. They have way more options at wayyy better prices.

The most recent trip was however a little different. I was there with AirAsia and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to attend the launch of Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise 2017. Besides myself, I was accompanied by a team of beautiful ladies from Singapore with 4 of them – Roz, Rebecca, Cinddie, and Jill - representing Singapore to face off Hong Kong and Vietnam to win the title of AirAsia Top Shopper! The winners will eventually walk away with 1 year of unlimited flights with AirAsia! Tbh, I even considered drugging Jill's food so I can be the one participating. LOL. Sorry Jill if you are reading this.

To be honest though, I don't think I can do it half as well as any of them. Look at their energy!

The contestants were tasked to shop around Bangkok for delicious local food, local fashion, and local everything else. The team that comes in the fastest and completing all the challenges with the least amount of money will raise above the rest as the Top Shopper!

Singaporeans might be known for our fast walking speed, ability to shop whole day, as well as how kiasu we are but unfortunately we did not win the game. But take a look at these images below and you will feel like they are already winners just being part of it.

Shopping, eating, traveling, and basically having fun!

The challenges were really no simple tasks. We were trying our best to catch up with them to take photos and we had such a hard time because they were so fast!

Tuning in to their Instagram Live broadcast got me all tickled. They were perpetually in a frenzy mode all the time trying to get all their shopping done. There was a challenge where they were tasked to do some grocery shopping and they went all over the place shouting "BENTO BENTO BENTO!" LOL

They were really committed to winning the game I'm sure. Rebecca did everything she could to get a discount! LOL.

And we could tell they really tried their best. Not just to win but also to entertain everyone!

So I was saying how hard it was to catch up with the ladies during the challenges right? So what were we doing since we lost them? *Cough* Well, no one can say no to the magic of Thailand's shopping and dining scene, right?

That's not all. After the challenges in the day, the ladies were also asked to put up a fashion show in the evening with some of the things they bought at Asiatique. The ladies sure went above and beyond. Instead of just a fashion show, they gave what the judges called a variety show. The girls were singing and dancing and got everyone's night filled with laughter and joy. See, who says Singaporeans only know how to follow rules?

After all the challenges, Team Hong Kong emerged as the overall winner!

Actually, I did so much shopping, dining, and partying, it felt like I was the real winner too!

We really did quite a bit despite it being a short trip. Can't wait to be back in Bangkok soon!

My Ko Samui Trip In Numbers

Smithankyou     11/30/2015 08:00:00 AM     asia361, bangkok airways, centera, diary, jaslyn, jessica, jun, ko samui, pohtecktoes, resort, sethlui, sponsored post, superadrianme, thailand, the library, travel     No comments
I've been to Thailand for a good 10 years before 2015 and in 2015 I actually visited Thailand 3 times? Bangkok, Ko Samui and Phuket. Although they are part of Thailand but all 3 places felt almost different?

What's a trip to Thailand without visit Temples right?

My office has a better view than yours!
Healthy Food is Healthy. Totally works for my diet plan! If you haven't - HERE

And if you have been reading my blog you will noticed I've better pictures this time! Thanks to a friend's camera and another teaching me how to edit my pictures. It's not the best best but I think it is good work in progress. After like 10,000 years of blogging and I'm finally having some decent pictures. I think it really looks kinda decent lah hor. And besides the fact that Ko Samui is really pretty and some of my pictures doesn't even do it justice. sigh.

Anyway, presenting to you Ko Samui in numbers!

0 is the number of

Since I say I didn't eat, obvious this picture was from another trip right?
Pad Kra Pao I had. This Pad Kra Pao is actually like my favourite thai food ever BUT the truth is there's a lot more food in thailand than just Pad Kra Pao!

1 is the number of

MANGO STICKY RICE! No Trip to Thailand is complete without Mango sticky rice!

2 is the number of

times we had massages and spa treatment! Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa was more than just another spa parlour. They are actually a resort for you to find yourself again (if I may). They have different lessons such as gym, yoga etc, and their rooms has no TV? It's seated on top of a mountain(or was it hill) and the view was beautiful! It's one of those things you do after a break up or the whole "eat pray love" thing? And another spa treatment was actually done at Dusita Spa which is along the heart of Ko Samui where you have all the pubs, food, street shopping. I really love how busy the streets were!! #CityKid

also the number of temples we visited. Not exactly the most religions person out that but the visit to the Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk) was pretty interesting. Like his body just didn't decomposed on its own. Can you believe it?

3 is the number of

CENTARA GRAND BEACH RESORT SAMUI 38/2 Moo 3, Borpud, Chaweng Beach
CENTARA VILLAS SAMUI 111 Moo 2 Maret, Nathien Beach Samui 84310, Thailand
Personal

check-in kit at The Library. And we got to keep it! YAY! #HoarderMuch
THE LIBRARY
14/1 Moo2 Chaweng Beach, Koh
Suratthani 84320, Thailand
Resorts we were hosted at! We were hosted at two different Centara resorts and The Library. The Centara has this classic feel to it where it will definitely be a place you want to bring your family with you to have a good break from the city. They have a wide range of rooms that caters to different needs. The Library was a not just a thematic resort but it was also super pretty. It is so pretty that I had problem capturing how it looks like? You guys should really check out it's site. It will definitely be one of those resort that I will visit again! And yes, guys who wants to impress a girl (or two. or three) this is the place you bring her to and you guys will have a good time if you get what I mean.

4 is the number of

Days we were at Ko Samui!

Coconut I had during the trip.

Photo taken at Santiburi Golf Samui. Superb View!

Crazy Singaporean Writers I travelled with! So besides me there was this #TheTravelIntern dude, pohtecktoes who happens to be my ex intern from 7/8 years ago. And also the young girl writers who were super energetic. They are Jaslyn from Asia361.com, June from Sethlui.com and Jessica from SuperADRIANME.com. Funny story, 3Js!! And I have to say these 3 sites are damn nice to me? They know I would prefer their young intern instead of traveling with Alvin, Seth and Adrian themselves so they decided to send all 3 young girls to me. YES! #FriendsForever I owe you guys! (And they finally taught me how to use snapchat. Old man is old already. Not catching up.)

And oh, I did not fail my math (just a C6 during my O levels), there is this other gentlemen there who is the representative from Bangkok Airways! And they have their own airport! How freaking cool right?

18 is the number of

calories probably in kala noodles. Kala noodles means coconut husk noodles. Not because it is cooked with coconut but because it is served in a bowl that looks like a coconut husk. To be honest I've no clue how much calories is in there. It tasted pretty healthy to be honest. And also you know the place that was selling this is freaking cool? It's like a road side store on the outside and a super pretty resort on the inside. How pretty? GPGT!

The street store outside.
Villa Nalinnadda 84310, Thailand. I got confused with the address but here's the number. +66 77 233 131
Wedding photos in the pool!

the postal code for this famous local noodles!! The full address is 4169, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84330. The number is known as Pa Mai Tree? Pa means Auntie and Mai Tree is the auntie's name. To be honest I've no idea if that the right name but it's damn nice? I'm sure you will like it!!! Very local and you know they have all these pictures of celebrity taking pictures with the auntie. They have a few different style. Like crab sauce, spicy fish oil sauce etc etc. I love the spicy fish oil one. It's very tasty and it's not spicy like overpowering and you only taste nothing but chili? And their dessert is superb!! They have this pulut hitam looking thing with corn? That's my favourite! Super sweet (like you guys reading my blog) and yummy!

93737 is the number of

The cocktail at the drinking gallery is damn pretty?
alcohol i've taken during the trip? I was on my diet but they kept serving me alcohol and i can't be rude and say no right? And the drink gallery is freaking pretty?

999999 is the number of

times I would like to thanks Bangkok Airways, Tourism Authority of Thailand and all the other sponsors for making this trip a successful one although we didn't managed to go snorkel because hendric didn't shower. Do you guys know the saying of "did not shower" and bring bad luck? Like wah lau you never shower ah that's why rain cannot play basketball later. of the rain.

And talking about Bangkok Airways, they have good news for you! From 1st December 2015, There will be an extra flights that operates every Wednesday and Thursday : The extra flights for Samui – Singapore is PG963, departs from Samui at 13:30 hrs. and arrives Singapore at 16:20 hrs, and PG964 departs from Singapore at 17:20 hrs. and arrives Samui at 18:15 hrs. So now you have more ways of going to Samui! *pops champagne*

I ate fruits because of prik glua!
The Grand Father CRock!
My Favourite Model.

If you remember my BKK Trip you would remember that I wasn't really impressed but I actually had a pretty great time at Ko Samui. So maybe I'm more of a resort holiday person I guess? Anyway, here's the poll of the post! Is Ko Samui a place you will visit someday?
