Staycation: 5 Things to do at Village Hotel Changi

Smithankyou     4/21/2015 11:38:00 AM     CHANGI, far east hospitality, singapore, sponsored post, staycation, VILLAGE HOTEL CHANGI     No comments
Your eyes ain't playing trick. This is not the same post from last week although the title do look similar. If you are unaware, Village Hotels under Far East Organisation has not just 1 hotel but a few of them. They are Village Hotel Changi at Changi, Village Hotel Katong at Katong (duh), Village Hotel Albert Court nearer to Little Indian area and Village Hotel Bugis near Haji Lane area.

Lucky us! Got a nice room with a nice sea view and balcony! But ain't nobody got time for balcony when we have bed. #IfYouKnowWhatIMean
I really like the location of all these 4 different village hotels because they always have something fun and interesting to offer. Not just within the hotel with extensive services and facilities but also around it. Like mentioned in my pervious post, Katong and its Peranakan Heritage, Albert Court with Little Indian, Bugis with Haji Lane and Changi with it's World War II heritage.

Cosy Room with a nice view of the shower area. *Cough*
Doing their part to live green! Thumbs up!
I was very surprised by the location. I was half expecting it to be a very quiet place since it is located at the corner of Singapore but instead it was really happening. It has been awhile since I last visited that part of Singapore and spend time there and I was really surprise by the things I can do there!

Happy Wife Happy Life
So here is Mr.Smith's quick guide to 5 things to do at Village Hotel Changi during Staycation!

5 Things To Do At Village Hotel Changi

1. Local Food Hunt
Famous Changi Nasi Lemak
No secret. Changi is the land of Nasi Lemak. We get one famous one and the rest just pop up around it. There was 4 different Nasi Lemak. For our friends not from Singapore, Nasi Lemak is our popular muslim delicacy which means coconut milk rice. It is one of the most amazing food because it can be breakfast, lunch, dinner and even supper. There are so many different type of local food at the hawker centre nearby besides this famous Nasi Lemak. From Chinese Zhng Char to even Indian food.

Red Tea Jelly Ice!
Local dessert. Tipoff by a friend after he saw my instagram that I was at Changi. Superb! Everyone should try this too!

2. Ubin Adventure
Image from www.travelieu.com
If you are into Island life and cycling, this is probably some where you wish to explore. The ferry terminal is just walking distance from the hotel. It is a good activity when you are staying at the hotel because you do not need to worry about the long traveling back home if you stay on the other side of Singapore. You can just return back to the room, shower and take a break. Perfect!

Obviously from the picture taken from the other site, you know that we didn't go because we were too lazy. And also because there were simply too much to do!

3. Hipster Cafe Hop in Changi

One of the biggest "culture" happening now in Singapore. The hipster cafe hop thing. I like my coffee and the wife likes how "chill" it is. Although we ain't exactly the biggest book person around, we like to visit such cafe, get a coffee, sit around to chat and play our handphone games.

Nothing shouts hipster louder than SPAM FRIES! MY FAV!
There are really a lot of them. From "Chock full of beans" to "1942", "Kakis Bistro Bar", "Coastal Settlement", "Jacob's cafe", "Jubilee Coffee House and Bar" and many others!

4. Bar Hop

If you ain't into coffee and prefers a good beer you are in luck. There are plenty of bars around the area within walking distance. Even better if you guys are going on a staycation with a few couples. The ladies can visit the spas around the area and the guys can hit to the "Husband Day Care Centre". There is a banner like this at Bam Booze bar which is just a stone throw away. Well, I was obviously too drunk too busy to take a picture of it so I had to google it again. (Thank God For Google)

5. Cat Patting
Cat Molesting
You will totally love this activity if you are into cats like us. This is totally free and I bet Changi is one of the place with the most amount of friendly stray cats. They are so friendly and will just walk up to you and interact! You can always bring your own cat food to feed them but don't forget to clean up and not leave any trash behind!

--------------------- End Of Quick Guide -----------------------

On another news, we were lucky during our stay as we bump into a very happy occasion! Someone was getting married! Not invited but we managed to steal a glimpse of the pretty set up!

Really pretty setup! Open air, nice sea and sky view. Didn't even felt like I was in Singapore at all!

In case you find this article boring, here is a picture of my sexy wife in bigini.

Bring me back to this view already!

Staycation: 5 Things to do at Village Hotel Katong

Smithankyou     4/15/2015 11:39:00 AM     far east hospitality, Katong, Peranakan, singapore, staycation, village hotel Katong     1 comment
I've been really addicted to Diablo 3 again and that's what I do all day and the wife ain't all happy. Lucky for me I've planned a Staycation at Village Hotel Katong to break my addiction. (and also to make her happy)

Now the wife is happy liao lor. I really love the decor!
Village Hotel Katong as the name suggest is located in the middle of Katong where the peranakan heritage is. I am no stranger to the place as we used to visit the area when we were teenager for internet cafe/lan gaming shop. And that's also because I stay in the east thus I actually know the place pretty well!!

Look at those Peranakan Motifs! Super Pretty and gives you the authentic feel!
I really enjoy resting during staycation. Away from the animals. We get to laze around. Sleep on comfy bed with good service in the hotel. Being greeted at different corner of the hotel. Damn shiok. But that being said it doesn't means staycation is always just about sleeping or trying to make SG50 baby. There's always more!
For those who are not staying in Singapore or in the eastern part of Singapore, here is a quick guide of the interesting activity around Village Hotel Katong! Live like a local!

5 Things To Do At Village Hotel Katong

1. Peranakan Heritage Tour

My own little Nyonya
Despite the popularity of the show Little Nyonya some years ago, we did not know the Peranakan heritage any better. Some of us always thought that the peranakan heritage is about "mix blood" in Singapore which is not true. It actually means "local born" which was something started because back in the days there were a lot of Chinese immigrate that came to Singapore. So it is some sort to differentiate the different chinese in Singapore. Loosely explain hor, don't quote me.

Look at all these pretty peranakan houses!
We were actually given vouchers by the hotel to visit this traditional shop just a stone throw away to learn more about peranakan culture, have some traditional food and even learn about dumpling making! This was really awesome because not only we had good food but also learn more about Singapore's heritage.

One of their boss, Edmund giving the wife a quick course on how to make a decent rice dumpling.
2. Hipster Photo taking

Katong has all these nice peranakan places and interesting site for phototaking. You guys can easily find interesting spot to do your shoot for instagram or blog shop. Look at how nice this picture is with minimum props. (Ownself say nice only) This is the truly Singaporean culture now right? haha

3. FOOD FOOD FOOD!!

The Famous KATONG LAKSA!
Nothing speaks "local" more than food. You have no idea how many types of food you can find around the area. From Katong Laksa to muslim food to beer and many more. I ate so much during the tour I almost wanted to cut open my belly so I can eat more. HAHA.
My fav Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice!!!
Indian food, Bar Food, Thai Food, Beer all at one place!

4. KTV

KTV have always been a little hobby for us and also many other people in Singapore. So much that we got married at a KTV. There's a KTV just within walking distance and you can sing till late and go home and sleep lor! I didn't manage to visit because we were already too busy having fun around so I just reuse my wedding picture lor.  If you are interested you can always check them out at Katong Shopping Centre.

5. Squatting Around

Not too sure if you will enjoy doing this but I recommend you try try lah hor.

-------------- Good Bye --------------

We really had a good time at VHK and I am already missing it! Eat, Drink, Sleep, Have fun and repeat! If only life is staycation daily!!!
