545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles at Tekka Centre

Food blogging has to be one of the type of blogs that is easiest to create content. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean easy to blog as in something everyone can do very well but I'm saying that they are the ones with the most among of ready content everywhere. I mean if it's not the quality of the post we are talking about, it is one of those things that anyone can try doing right? Keyword - try.

I've seen bloggers sending in Email asking for free food in return for a POSITIVE blogpost or worst still, weird startup agency by bloggers telling cafe or restaurant that they get 40-50 blogposts for a small sum of money. Frankly, I'm quite impress with the promised KPI of 40-50 blogpost. It's kinda of a stretched if you ask me.  40 blogpost and everything positive? OR are these people just trying to get free food?

So I don't usually blogs about food...

That being said, I hate blogging about food (I've been naggy about this) because I'm really not good at it. I'm kinda a sore loser cause I only like to do things I'm good at. For example trolling people or talking about sex.

Anyway...

Enough of digressing, I want to talk about this very "famous" prawn noodle store. The Whampoa Prawn Noodles at Tekka Centre.

Havoc blonde "auntie"*
Question 1: Why is it "Famous" with the ""
Answer: It is famous to me cause the auntie selling noodles there is my friend and it just keeps appearing on my Facebook feed until I really crave so much for it but the thing is that they are open in the morning and closes by 1 or 2pm because it gets sold out.

Question 2: So it is at Whampoa or Tekka?
Answer: There are two branches, 1 at Whampoa and the other at Tekka and the one with the pretty blonde auntie is at Tekka.

With these questions out of the way, let's take a look at our two stars for today.

Mr.Soup Prawn Mee Hoon

The Good - To me, this is a very traditional type of prawn noodles, I like how the prawns has no shells, being sliced into halves, very easy to eat. The optional Chilli fakes gives the whole dish a new life. And my favourite? Has to be the very shiok fried pork lard. HAHA.

The Bad - I think this is the nature of this dish and a short coming. The soup based gets "thicker" over the day and when you visit early in the morning 8ish am to beat the crowd like what I did, it simply means the soup base will not be as strong as how I imagined it to be.

Price: $3/$4

Verdict: 6.5/10.

Up next,

Little Miss Dry Prawn Noodle + Kway Tiao

The Good: Now this is the champion for me. The mix between the noodle and kway tiao gives me the option within one bowl. I've no clue how else to say it other than I am super happy with this dry option.

The Bad: One is never enough.

Price: $3/$4

Verdict: 9/10 Si bei shiok but cannot give bias result of 10 points just because the havoc auntie is cute. LOL.

Overall I think it was super worth it even when I had to wake up early and travel down just to eat this. It's super accessible cause it's less than 3mins walks from Little Indian MRT station Exit C.

Bonus Shout out to 328 Cafe.

My favourite long black.
Honestly, I've no idea what's with the food stores playing number, 545, 328, if I ever have a hawker store it would be 521(Whatever food) cause 521 meanings I love you. HAHA. Cheesey.

Anyway, this special shout out is to the coffee stall which is two stalls down from 545 Prawn Noodles. It's run by this young man selling fancy coffee like long black, cuppuccino, latte and what not in the "old skool" hawker centre. I thought the idea is pretty cool! Maybe many people will say that he is locating himself at the wrong place for wrong target group because uncles and aunties will pay no more than 80cents for coffee but people like me really appreciate a nice coffee even at old skool hawker too!

So this is my little review of 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles and I must say I am very happy about it! Totally worth the travel.

P.S: I don't how this works but I read this line on the papers all the time so I would insert it here too: "Writer Smith Leong paid for his own noodles and coffee. (Actually no, the coffee was paid by his breakfast buddy Daphne Maia) This is not a sponsored or paid review and neither did anyone agrees to pay in kind. TYVM"

*Auntie: A very weird local culture where you addresses the people who sell things "uncle" and "Auntie" - they ain't really my relatives.

Mr.Smith, how does a prawn laugh?
