LMF Interview. RESPECT.

Was sharing with my favorite Malay friend - Fad about LMF. Telling her why I like them and why I respect their attitude. The attitude of respecting music, respecting what they believe and being non-commercialize in some way. They deserve respect and that's that. Found this other interview that I believe was made for the world tour.

I respect these guys, it's a shame I will probably never gonna get to meet them in person which I wish I could.

I like their attitude, like mentioned in the video, they might probably be richer than they current are but when asked about what they lost or regret, no one has a single regret about giving all they have/had for music, for their dream and for what they believe in. How many people can say the same for now?

People sing, people do what they do for bread for butter, for fame for power but these guys just want to change what they believe is not right. Their sense of justice, their sense of righteousness.  They might look under ground, they might look like they are a negative influence to kids but if you look beyond their physical appearance like what I am doing, you will know who they really are.

LMF - Lazy Mutha Fucka

I've been their fans for a few years. When I say I'm their fan I don't mean I memories their birthdays or buy all their CDs and in fact it is really hard to get any of their music.

Who are they? According to Wikipedia :

LMF also known as Lazy Mutha Fucka or Lazy Muthafucka, is a Cantonese hip-hop group in Hong Kong. The group, signed by Warner Music, was founded in 1993, disbanded in 2003 and regrouped in 2009. Some members of LMF are pursuing solo careers.
In contrast with the norm of commercialized and packaged Cantopop at the time, LMF writes and perform their original music. All members of the group hailed from poverty and their songs often depict life and struggle in the underclass and working class; which created a lot of controversies due to the cursing and the subject matter. They are ostracized by the mainstream media for a variety of reasons; among them, their perceived negative influence on Hong Kong youth, their promotion of the hip-hop attitude, and their rough appearance that contrasted the normally well-dressed and clean-cut performers in the music industry.

Update on 11 Feb 2013: I found these videos online, an interview for the LMFs. Dare Ya - 大你. It's a little long but it's interesting. There are some lines that I really like: (pardon for my translation.)

"playing music, forming band is not about getting rich, if you wanna be rich go be a bank or something."

"We like music, we play music. I don't like it when people recognize me, I just want to play music. I am not idol."

"I don't think people want to know who likes what or who is the best in what cause we are not idol, we just need people to like our music." 

These are something that makes me really like them. They know where they stand, they know what they are doing and for what. It's not just about making money or getting fame cause like they mentioned, there are better ways to get fame and make money. I guess it's the same thing I will tell many bloggers in Singapore. Guys, you don't blog to be famous or rich, there are other way of doing it. Like blogging because you like to write.

I discovered this band back in 2000 there about where I was at one of the typical night market also better known as Pasam Malam and they were playing some canto rap and that totally got my attention. After some research and all I finally manage to get my hands on two of their Original CDs at HMV.

LMFAMiGLIA, my very first LMF CD.

 I would say because of the things they sing they get very little media acknowledgement for it even when it's very meaningful and nice. Not that many Singaporean understand Canto and thus they are not THAT popular here as well. In fact not many knows about them. Every time I see any person who knows them I feel like I just bump into a long lost relative.

I would like to introduce two of my favorite song of theirs, it's not because it's just catchy or is it full of vulgar but because it's really meaningful.

This is what Hip Hop is about. It's about singing what you feel. Expressing yourself.

Which means having a kid is like a credit card, you just have to keep paying.

Anyway I'm really sad that it's hard to be their fan here as we have very limited resource and I'm even more sad that they are disbanded. But good music never dies.
