Prologue
Nic, "Let's catch up for breakfast."
Me, "Sure, where?"
Nic, "*sends some pictures. We can try this. Quite shiok"
Me, "hmmm. The food very ugly looking leh. Doesn't look instagrammable"
Nic," *hahahahahha f*cker. Let's go Free the Robot instead then"
We all have that one friend that we hardly get to meet because of life but every time when we meet, it just picks up easily like where we last left. Nic is that friend of mine.
It still tickles us quite a bit every time we have to tell people that we met on Twitter. It's no secret that I made a lot of friends on Twitter during its heyday where people connect to people on a more personal level. These days in Singapore, Twitter is much more of a tool for people to complain about something and by something I usually mean the MRT breakdowns lol.
This is Nic.
Nic is a good friend because she always buys me food including this breakfast.
Nic is generous and witty.
Be like Nic.
I've no idea what are these known as on the menu as I was gentleman enough to let her place the order. LOL. I mean this is one of her hangouts, of course I would listen to the "local" right. There was toast with eggs and bacon as well as corned beef. Nothing can go wrong with eggs and bacon. To make things even better, the toast was served crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Despite being located in Telok Ayer Street which is an area filled with offices, the place was actually crowded at 9am for breakfast. Don't these people need to be in the office and actually work?
Nic, "Aiya, all go in office, turn on computer, put down bag and come out eat lor."
Besides coffee and toast in the morning, Free the robot is also a bar in the morning. I mean in the evening. But hey, it's never too early for a cocktail or whiskey right?
It's not easy to miss this place. You might have walked passed it a million times not knowing the name but the robot drawings on the wall as well as the famous "glory hole" on the wall is quite iconic and you will probably go "orhhh. this place" when you finally visit.
Free The Robot is located at 118 Telok Ayer Street.
Opens from 830am
Call @ 6438 1836
