Working with your Ex-Partners, A Power98 Story.

When it comes to ex-girlfriends and ex-boyfriends. the ultimate awkward team has to be this trio -

Robin, Barney and Ted from How I Met Your Mother

For the benefit of those who doesn't watch the show, Robin on the left dated 2 of her best friends, Barney and Ted and both Barney and Ted are very good friends before knowing Robin. And btw, Ted best friend is Marshall. So Robin slept with 2 of her 4 best friends. that's 50%.



I am sure most people have a number of ex-es or in some cases flings, ex-lovers, ex-husbands or wives or what not. And how many of you are still or actually can:

1. Still be friends.
2. Work together.
3. Hangout (Different level of friends as compare to option 1.)
4. Friends with benefits.

I know many find it awkward for the simplest reason is that you guys have seen each other naked and now you have to see each other dressed are ex-es, past tense. There must be something "wrong" in the relationship that causes you guys to be ex-es in one way or the other. I've seen ex-es who bad mouth each other, no longer hang out and worst case, trying to stop common friends from meeting one another.

But that being said, I seen ex-es who are still very good friends. More often they are couples who broke up because of the differences in their life. It's not so much of I cheated you or you slept with my best friends kinda scenario. It's more like after awhile they no longer share the common goal and they are at different places of their life at that point of time. Which means they "kinda", "maybe", "possibility" still love each other but just don't see the relationship going anywhere.

One very good example of the awesome ex-es are radio personalities... no not that one that keeps dating and getting married/dating different female Djs, but I'm talking about the Power98's Mister Young and Jacqui! 

For those who didn't know, Mister Young and Jacqui dated for 5 years, or maybe 4 and a half according to the one who cared less. And yes, for the first time in Singapore radio history, this dual is going to be on air, in the same room at the same time, co-hosting a LIVE radio program.

I, amongst the few other bloggers had the privilege to meet up with both of them and learn more about this show.

We have the usual suspect, NinjaGirlSg, WorkingWithGrace, TypicalBen, Darren Sim,  and new friend CK and Charleen! In blue is Shareen Wong from Power98.

Whose idea was it?

Mister Young (Who by the way for those who do not know, surname is not Young and neither is his age nor look. :x He is just quirky and thick skin to call himself that. And also his Chinese name ends with a Young.) came out with the idea and Power98 was brave enough to bring this on air! One word for the culture of Power98 going all ground breaking - RESPECT!

Before this...

Before this, they were colleagues at other stations but never have they had a show together. In fact, according to Mister Young, no other couples had hosted any time slot together before. He tried pitching but it was too "dangerous" like we all know how many companies doesn't allow office relationship. Questions like what if you guys fight, make out with the mic on accidentally, break up and etc.etc.

What's the worst that could happen? 

From the session I had with them, I must say that their chemistry is very very good. They know each other well, and they have 5 years worth of dirty laundry to air(literally). So that's going to be super awesome and I'm not even surprise if anything drama breaks out during the radio show. I call if marketing gimmick. What's the worst that could happen? If you ask me, them falling in love again.

Conspiracy Theory

Why would it be worst if they fall in love again you ask me? Don't get me wrong, they make a cute couple. They look funny together but if they get back together, wouldn't that make the show "Ex-Factor" losing it's point? In fact, I think this could be Mister Young's Conspiracy theory of making a first couple on air. He mentioned it was never done before as well as his unsuccessful pitched, so I believe he did that on purpose and set this up so they could be the first ever couple on air.  Don't quote me, #JustSaying. ;P

You didn't ask me but...

If my memory didn't fail me, I believe Jacqui was my school mate during poly days and in fact same course.  Pretty cool to like finally meet her during the session.

What's next...

The ex-factor will be on air starting next Monday, June 10th from 5pm - 8pm. Frankly, I'm not exactly a radio person ever since Glenn Ong stop doing the whole "HONKY TONG MAN!" thing but I'm actually really excited about this.
