Singapore is too small, we do not have enough space... to those who doesn't wish to share of course.
Inspired by a picture shared on Facebook by Yvonne Chua. (not my friend btw, just saw this picture through others sharing it.)
"Chomp chomp was really crowded.
A pair of aunt and uncle was looking for seats and approached this
family of 4. ****CHINA. Who are sitting in a table of 8, meant for 4
each.
They wedge themselves right in the middle of the split 4-4, 2 tables. They can jolly well sit in 1.
And refused to let anyone else sit, because 'They don't like to sit with other people.'/'Got people already.'
Bloody selfish family, go back la seriously. Stop ruining the culture of Singapore."
Does Singapore have enough space for more? Is the 6.9 million population going to be a problem? No doubt, we have way too many problems especially when it comes to money. First it was MAS rules on car loan and now it is ERP. Every morning, afternoon and night's traffic is a mess but after all being said and done the most important thing is not about whether we have enough resources to stay together as 1 people 1 nation but is the willingness to share and be 1 voice.
I am not the best student during my econs lessons and neither am I a sociology expert but I guess the logic is as such that when you have too many of something that you like, you will still keep it regardless of how you are going to do it. With more people on the island, there will be more demand in different needs, be it from dailies to tourism and with more of these demand we will have to answer with more supplies and more work opportunities will be created isn't it? More trains? More line? Or even a different working system? Students school to start earlier to avoid working crowd and maybe different industry can consider start work at different timing? I might be saying something silly that might only work in an ideal world but my point in this post talks about the willingness to accommodate and share.
Back to the picture above, if I were to met in such a situation, what would I have done?
1. Ask them nicely if they will shift to 1 table. point to note is that it is TWO table.
2. If they refuse, I will still buy food with 3 of my friends and sit at each corner and talk. Yes, I might get stomp, I might get into a fight but well, I fought for my rights and technically there is nothing wrong with me sitting around you since you refuse to give me my table. When you are unwilling to share, I will take what I deserve.
Mr.Smith, I want to be nice, I can be nice but I can be an asshole too. And you guys know it better.
