I've recently completed a module of my degree which is Cross Culture Management. IMO, it is simply one big subject of stereotyping and that's about it. No doubt the pros about this subject will give us better understanding of different culture and also know what to expect when dealing with people from different culture, but than again I challenge the idea. Wouldn't setting expectation causes an individual to already has a preset idea which is bad? In certain extreme condition wouldn't that be kinda like racists too ?
It's hard for me to comprehend and agree with the subject when I don't agree. I simply do not believe that a land of 5million people and everyone thinks a like? It's as good as when I ask people - "u guys believe in horoscope? So there are only 12 type of people walking around us?" I think you get my point, people are affected by environment, up bringing, exposure and even condition. If that is the case, why must we even set a 1st expectation and only to be "surprise" by ourselves later on?
Humans are very complex IMO. I have friends who commented that I plan too much, I always try to understand people around me and than predict their moves and than I make my moves. Where else on the other hand my moves are always unpredictable ( less that part about being humsup, everyone know that part of me as well as their ABCs.) . To me, every individual are different, a mind of their own and a different pattern. No doubt you will have friends who are very similar or maybe you have even met a few person who are very a like but that doesn't not make them same as well as forming a culture.
Question, so is it the people who form the culture or the culture which influence the people? OR, is it simply something which people follows the "norm" due to peer pressure and become a culture?
I guess I will never be convince by anything or anyone that you benefit more from studying culture...
